Brother Chronicles I still listen to this series at least once a month because this is giving me so much to research. But I've been reading "The Histories" by Herodotus and you're right. He does exaggerate hella but at least he is honest to admit that his version of history may not be what he has documented because he is getting a lot of second-hand accounts. But one thing I read in the "Histories" was in Book I and when Pisistratus wanted to take over Athens he went after a collective meal and he knew that the Athenians or the Lacedemonians would be apt for takeover because it was after a meal and they would either be sleep or playing dice! LOL We've been shooting craps for centuries, is my interpretation. The sleep part reminds me of that Dave Chappelle joke when he said that black folks should be able to take a nap after lunch during work.
