Pill Pod 194 - Venezuela Propaganda Hour (Exclusive)

It was meant to be a short intro conversation but it quickly became a full-on episode about news, propaganda, and ideology.

Hey asks for the audience who isn't college educated. He make sure the question asked is central. He criticizes easy answers. He was helpful in the Baudrialliard episodes on Fatal Strategy/seduction for example.

Grounds the podcast in what exactly?

hoppi

I think that is probably under estimating the drive to avoid personal retribution from superiors. Whether that takes the form of job loss or just loss of future opportunities. Dropsite news just published an article regarding the BBC and bias in their reporting on Israel which has journalists basically saying as much. (https://www.dropsitenews.com/p/bbc-civil-war-gaza-israel-biased-coverage) And I would expect it's a similar experience at any outlet. Maybe it's not necessarily breaking on Israel/Palestine, but there's always going to be some level of ideological creep in organisations that effects their reporting. I don't think that journalism as an institution can be characterised by individual genuine efforts at journalism/trash journalism, or by the structural bias/structural integrity of the organizations, but rather by the indeterminacy that is created by having it all mooshed together.

Im dying that pills is on victor's side so much lately. The balance of the podcast has shifted like crazy lmao. I even agree with Diego when he explains himself more mostly but the 20 minute argument on the sources was harming me psychically.

Matt Chen

Victor grounds the podcast. His insights and demand for clarity is essential to the podcast.

Khemith

Victor calling something a 'ridiculously stupid position' and then refering to Snowden is so aggressively uninformed and ignorant. His flat out "scepticism" in the political economy of the media is really not worthy of this podcast. Do we not have more qualified people that could replace him in the long term? Someone less smug while being wrong?

This is one of the most engaging episodes of the pod

Gustavo Ernesto Gudiño Pateyro

What a spicy episode, man. Loved it.

Gustavo Ernesto Gudiño Pateyro

Lol very spicy episode

I think the fact that the pillpod has become more overtly "political" is a testament to Mr. Pillz general hypothesis. Ideas do not matter!

Kyle Brown

Great point: do we really care if Maduro stole the election? Good I hope he steals it everytime.

Khemith

Despite the heavy CIA vibes coming from Lib Vic, I did agree with his systems theory view on journalists and the media biz - they want the story…

Andy Madeley

It's not like I agree with Victor, but God does it feel good to have at least some push back against Diego's wild leftist twitter takes

Sorry guys this was unlistenable.

Victor’s belief in liberal institutions seems so abstract to me because it’s like he would say most parties and candidates don’t use the institutions right. I’m convinced it’s because these institutions are difficult to use for most people due to capitlism itself. And anyway there’s a sense where the DoTP follows in the liberal tradition at least as much as it would be a democratic republic in initial appearance but with the added idea that the institution can make itself obsolete.
