I don't think JCS is making content anymore. There hasn't been a new video since Christmas and it's been radio silence ever since.

I believe the Jodi Arias video around Christmas was the last thing up. It was pretty good, but yeah, I definitely miss regular videos from JCS. There really is no comparison in the true crime world sadly.

If you see this Jim, I hope you are not angry but recent events have caused me to reevaluate my discretionary expenses, and as a year approaches without any postings I must take my leave. I have enjoyed all the content so far and hopefully will be back in the future. Be well all. o/

I think this might be the end, guys. JCS was truly my favorite YouTube (and Patreon channel). Their content was better than any Netflix or HBO crime series...so it sucks to see it end so soon. I became a Patron just for JCS, still worth it to see the 28 unlocked videos I hadn't previously seen.

So does anyone here know why JCS made this change? He was obviously doing extremely well on Patreon and so unless I’m missing something, this is a big surprise to see it’s all going to be free on YouTube now.

"jim" definitely isn't one person. i'd guess it's a group of people researching and writing and a paid narrator / actor. they're releasing content on youtube. if they are able to monetize the channel properly and make an agreement with youtube they will make a lot of money. some of their videos have 10 million views. they came here because youtube was being difficult with them, that appears to have stopped.

I wish someone would interpret the issue. Jcs is quitting patreon? Why can't his videos be found? Is the issue that patreon rules require a certain amount of uploads per month, and jcs not like the constraints? Is splitting vids between patreon decreasing revenue on youtube? I am completely in the dark here. Is there more communication somewhere else that explains this better? I can't understand why jcs, loved for the logic and clarity couldn't communicate this better.

!!!MY THEORY ON WHY JIM DECIDED TO STOP PATREON UPLOAD AND GO BACK TO YOUTUBE ONLY UPLOADS!!! Also, first let me say I am still pleging my $ to JCS reguardless of validity of claims or not! ^_^ As his content is simply just far too simultaneously rare and well done! ; ) OK Guys So, I have some theory's here; (as far as ceasing Patreon content in favour of Youtube...) So, my guess is that; There is simply just not enough distinctive content out there for jim to be able to work with (as say distinctive specifically because; sure, there may be a a fair few interrogations out there that Jim could analyse; but I've noticed he/they make sure to try &amp; pick a different skew per video each time. That way he isn't just re hashing the same data to us again and again &amp; therefore due to this drought of varying content to work with I think he said to himself; "Hmmm... well I either start re treading old ground and they get bored of my content..." OR "I move back to youtube and thus am able to upload and huge irregular intervals whenever there comes a distincive video footage to be able to analyse" As keeping with Patreon uploads means a new video every month... So, what you guys think about the validity of my analysis? (Also please forgive me if this particular theory has already been discussed previously...)

Btw. for anyone interested there is new channel on youtube that is similar to JCS and has very good content. He was probably very much inspired by the content from JCS and even admits it, but the content is great. Check it out "Matt Orchard - Crime and Society" - currently has 1hr+ docs on Daniel Holtzclaw, Anthony Palma, Justin Ross Harris and Basil Borutski.

There's been a recent restructuring of how sites like Patreon are paying out so I imagine that's part of the reason

They have informed you of what is to come, so make a decision. It’s not like they robbed or deceived you.

That is why many actors who work in TV shows or in a movie work a few months of the year and earn multi millions. You don't watch a movie and then complain about how much each actor or producer makes. So understand that and stop counting his money, it's none of your business Karen.

Patreon are going to be sued en mass for canceling creators. There's a good chance they will need to take creators money to defend themselves or simply go out of busineess..

Not sure why you’re leaving Patreon, but another service that might interest you is storyfire. They don’t seem to censor content and the ad rate is better than YouTube…lots of creators with “not advertiser friendly” content are going there.

This was the first channel I’ve ever pledged any money to and it was well worth it but I do worry about the comments regarding uncensored content. I don’t specifically seek out or like gore, can be a bit squeamish tbh, but I do appreciate the uncensored content... Especially “The Code” and “Perspective” series as well as re: Andrew Brannan (before the dash cam footage was edited out). I remember when the first few “Most Compelling” interrogations and Jodi Arias videos appeared on my feed, you were barely at 10k subscribers but within a few months the channel exploded. This is a case of a well deserved, quality channel quickly rising up and I’m proud to have been apart of it. Thank you for all your work JCS team! No pressure but I really do hope you guys give us some updates on Patreon with exclusives from time to time.

Yeah, that's the same questioned I asked too! If JCS have to censor their content and 'tone it down' to have up on YouTube that will really suck. Surely there is another way to! At this point JCS has a big enough and incredibly devoted fanbase, I wouldn't mind betting many of us would be willing to pay a hell of a lot more than $1 per month to continue to have access to new JCS content. With the amount of money they could likely bring in from having both their YouTube plus their own subscription based website or something like that could be immense. Who knows though, maybe there is more incentive for them to solely YouTube based from now on, even if that means having to tone down their content. We don't really know what's going on behind the scenes but at the end of the day I don't mind where it's living, as long as they continue to make content I'll be watching and will remain a huge fan. I'm happy to pay for it, but obviously I'm also happy to get It for free! Whatever works for them. But with all that being said, it def will be a little disappointing if the content style/type has to change/be censored now that all new videos will be hosted on YouTube. JCS are so good at what they do though, censored/watered down or not, I'm sure their new videos will have us just as enthralled as we have been until now.

Much like another comment I read I thought the whole reason you have a patreon account was because YT is too restrictive? It would very much appreciated to get a reason why posting videos to patreon is an issue, or no longer necessary? I prefer content that is unedited and in its original form. Randy, I’m not going to be ignorant, but 1st of all, showing how many ppl a Patreon channel has is an option. JCS could remove that so no one knows how many subscribe. 2nd, do you have any idea how many ppl and time and resources it takes to make and edit a video? Specially the length, the quality, of the JCS product? And this day and age, quality equipment for filming and editing, ever see what that costs? I do know a YT channel that has an enormous audience. Long time friend, and they tell me the operating costs! It’s unbelievable! Anyway, when I see ppl throw those $ amounts out, it just bothers me. Ppl do the quick math, and yes, to someone working 40 hrs a week, making a descent wage that appears to be a lot. It isn’t! And yes I know, this guy could just be talking shit.

What about the uncensored content? YouTube will not allow it. Has the JCS team considered keeping vimeo or whatever around as an alternate streaming platform? If profit is not an issue, I think it's very important that raw content continues be available and produced for the sake of society. It's important for people to be able to see what horrible things are possible and continue to happen on a daily basis all over the world. I trust JCS to always deliver top quality. I trust them to serve the public's best interest with their levels of transparency, styles of communication, etc. I'm just worried about some of the implications that may result from transitioning solely to YouTube. Fortunately, this isn't permenant, and JCS can upload videos whenever and wherever they want.

This seems a little odd. I understand you probably make more from the money off YouTube ad revenue but could you not release content early here for the people that actively support you? You could always have this as like an early release platform and release videos on YouTube a week later. I love your content put its hard for me to justify continuing to pay (I’m giving 3 a month instead of 1, not much either way) for content I can get for free. Either way will be lowering my contributions to 1 $ if not straight up ending my subscription.

There has to be something more to this, like they don’t want to continue, because I don't understand how this issue is as insurmountable as he describes it. I pay 5-8 dollars for other patreons, why not jack up rates? why not just upload to YouTube and live with some fraction of people pirating it? Why do you have to use a site that charges you for bandwidth? There are many file hosting sites that will host for free. Why not just make the episodes available to download rather than stream? Hes making 40k a month, he outsources the voice acting to a single man. Doing the research, getting videos from he government, and editing them together does not cost much money, only time. Even if he split the profits 50/50 (which I doubt he's doing), that's still over 100k a year and bandwidth is not that expensive. Not to mention the fact that videos come out every 1-3 months so that is very little work for the time and money.

Bro, I pay for you to create content, not to have "exclusivity". Posting on youtube is just fine, as long as you don't have to censor your work. If you can't distribute on platforms because the content is too "violent or risque" for their platform, might I suggest distribution of the "heavy" content via torrent/magnet link? it would be great to see, and it would practically remove all hosting costs. I love this channel, but people have to consider that JCS was making ten's of thousands of dollars per month to make content that released at an arguably slow rate.. Add in the potential revenue from youtube and you realize that money is obviously not the source of "issues" that they ran into which is preventing new episodes. I think people stuck around after last month because we believed that this was a bump in the road, but now at the very end of the month we get an update telling us there will again be no Patreon exclusive. If this upcoming episode is indeed the biggest you have ever produced, then it can be assumed that you have been working on it for awhile, therefore could have updated us to let us know that you wont be uploading it to Patreon. Simply put, it would have been nice to know earlier in the month that there wont be any more exclusives. Still love the channel and will continue to pay just to watch old videos, fingers crossed that something changes!

Hey Guys, I wanted to offer an insight into how I consume JCS content in case it helps you troubleshoot your bandwidth issues. I have never shared a JCS link to someone else but I am guilty of quite a few multiple re-watches. I have probably watched all JCS patreon exclusives maybe 3 times each and most of that is just having the smooth Kizzume voice narrating police interrogations. It's an excellent way to keep my mind occupied while I am stuck working from home. I hope you guys can get to the bottom of your bandwidth leak and I hope to see more great content in the future.

You pay to see things first and have a chance to comment before it goes public. I was surprised you don’t have more levels of pledges. I would gladly pledge $5, $10 or even $15 a month to support you. Maybe the higher levels works including some perk like a daily vlog of what’s happening just for those to care more on a personal level. I watch work my teenage grandchildren and use it as teaching moments about the reality of life and how to protect yourself. It gives me some good discussion time with them and gets them to open up about what is happening with their school and friends. Temptations they encounter and how law enforcement can be helpful or hurtful depending on what they believe to be true and how they can trick a person into saying things that can make them look guilty.

Thanks so much for the update JCS and for the honesty. I for one am going to continue to pledge and support you in the creation of your free videos on YouTube. You are such a class act, if you were just doing this for money you could've easily strung everyone along for months on end and just put out one short video every now and then but the fact that you are moving strictly to YouTube and you are being straight up about it shows what a stand up guy/team JCS truly is. I think its wise as well because it means so many more eyeballs on your content and all the hard work you do can be appreciated by many more people - far more than the 40 thousand or so on here. And it also takes the pressure away from you having to try and make two videos per month, one for Patreon and one for YouTube. I think its a wise decision, plus there will no doubt be many more people like myself who are more than happy to give you the $12 per year, simply to support you and your team in making what I believe to be by far the best content on the internet in the realm of crime/psychology, but also the best in terms of documentary making and storytelling. One question I have which I totally understand that you may not be able to answer..however, some of the content on here is quite graphic (ie. self inflicted gunshot footage, war footage etc) so I'm wondering if this kind of stuff can no longer be made if you are strictly on YouTube? Maybe it is allowed on YouTube and I just have never come across it before? I don't know.. Maybe someone else can answer my question. That being said, if there was content you put together in future that is highly graphic, would you consider posting that here in that instance OR would you just decide to make them more pallatable for the wider YouTube audience? For all the people saying this is "shady" or "something else is going on", here is a rough breakdown of Jim's Costs. Jim's Patreon videos are hosted on Wistia. Jim is using a plan not priced out on their website, as it only allows up to 10 videos. So we can only set this monthly cost number at $99 per month. Wistia is using Akamai CDN to deliver content. We can take the pricing of Akamai bandwidth from Azure, as they use both Verizon and Akamai as options for streaming. So this number is 0.129 USD per GB of bandwidth. For simplicity, let's assume each video is 1GB in size. Some videos are over an hour long, others are shorter. It's a decent average number to use. At the time of me writing this comment (but STILL dropping because of this news) Jim has 39,052 Patreons. Multiple Patreons have already stated in these threads that they love to watch and re-watch Jim's videos. If every Patreon were to watch the video *once*, the total cost would be roughly 5,037 USD. Jim's latest video on Youtube (The Legend of "Jeff") has 2,828,846 views at the time of this writing. If we take even a fraction of this number and use it as a baseline for viewers of the Patreon videos going viral over link sharing and forums, the monthly cost will easily exceed 39,000 USD. One video would only need to be watched roughly 302,000 times for the monthly cost for ONE video to exceed 39,000 USD. This is very easily possible, it is really not a surprise that their operating costs are way too high. I hope this puts a few concerns to rest over their reasoning for delivering the news. It's also a problem that can be solved fairly easily, as I've previously stated, but obviously it requires somebody experienced in server setups.

I'll keep my Patreon going, your content is top quality and by far the most interesting I watch, I look forward to a video every month, I don't actually care where I watch it.

Check the bandwidth prices. They're probably streaming out hundreds of terabytes. It's not x$/month at that level. Wistia, which Jim C. Swim has used, apparently charges about 300$ for a terabyte of streamed video. That's a thousand streamings of a one gigabyte video. The videos gets watched by the hundreds of thousands per month.

I wont be cancelling, tbh I'm really disappointed patrons has dropped by about 1k, its $1 people. FFS. It's literally a store brand loaf of bread in cost.

When I was first registering for the account, I saw the option to join for free for those who can't afford it - for that alone, I'll be happy to pay my fee until you guys quit (plz don't!). Also, not sure if this will work but Youtube has a "private" option which lets you give access to specific emails only, and will not work if that person shares that link. So basically, you only give access to our registered email addresses for each vid. Hope this helps &lt;3

Something else is going on. Forgive my skepticism. Hosting costs should not make this an unworthy endeavour. You make ungodly amounts of money per month and you're throwing it away because of a few people sharing unsolicited links on public forums? Makes no sense. Hosting servers cost as little as 10$ a month with limits of over 500GB upload.. If you need help setting this up effectively please CONTACT ME. I WILL DO THIS FOR YOU FOR FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL. The videos are very popular - The Case of Jon Coppenhaver, uploaded in April to youtube has more than 2 million views. And that's only one of the videos, and only on one platform. For everything that's available outside youtube, they're paying hosting fees. Suppose they're paying 4 cent per gigabyte and a gigabyte worth of videos get watched/downloaded a million times a month, that's your 40 000 $. Not hard to believe at all.

My memory isn't that short guys. You made this Patreon to host the videos that were too spicy for YouTube. Who cares if the private videos are being shared around, 'IT's nOT AboUT THe MoNey'? You make half a million dollars a year at an absolute minimum and haven't even gotten round to re-hosting the old content. Honestly, pay me a couple hundred quid and I'll get it done.

To be honest, we can't be 100% sure whether he makes 40k or not. What a lot of big patreon sites have to deal with is people unpledging on the last day of the month and then pledging again at a later date, from what I understand you don't pay that. Correct me if I'm wrong here

Hi Jim. Gonna be honest with you. I pledge so you’ll keep making your show. I never come to patreon because it’s one extra thing I have to do - I usually just watch when your video drops on YouTube. It keeps my life simple and then I am not making expectations for you or for myself (like remember Game Of Thrones? I absolutely died inside when I had to wait another week, or if I had to be out and missed the show; I don’t like feeling dependent on something). My pledge is for you to produce a show, just like how I watch a show on tv. An extra special is cool (how about a Christmas special haha), but the entire reason I pledge money to you is because I like your content and I am supporting you directly. If you feel pressure to keep up with other you tubers and their streams, just stop and take a step back and realize that these streaming services may not be worth it. I will continue my support. However, I don’t really want to be forced to pay five dollars a month - this is because that is half of what I pay for Hulu, for example. I don’t care about live streams because I notice creators don’t leave them up - they disappear. My schedule is so bad that I would never be able to tune in. Maybe you should consider doing a special live thing for those who pay more. But I want to be able to choose what I pay and I am fine with watching your stuff on YouTube. I am just paying for you to create a show, not be at my beck and call. I think you guys were using Wistia as a host, and I know they're crazy expensive especially if people are link-sharing. Honestly, why couldn't we continue having Patreon exclusive content on YouTube where the video would be unlisted. Sure, it may get shared, but I think that would make it so you could show things that normally wouldn't be allowed by YouTube. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Either way, I'm going to continue supporting, but this is sad. I wish people could realize that $1 a month is such a crazy bargain for what we get that it's not ever worth sharing links.
