I was assaulted by someone very similar to this guy once. When the police came they said he uses his disability to lure women into letting him touch them. When I asked if he had done this before, they said 'all the time'. A chat thread in a community group revealed all these women who had gone through the same thing, easily 100 people. I even caught him trying it on a colleague once. These people do exist.

I have to say.. the complaints I see on here from many are rather annoying and pointless! Of course, we would all like more content, we wouldn't be paying the $1 per month (or $1.53 in Australia) if we didn't love and look forward to more awesome content. However, with that being said, wouldn't you much prefer JCS to take their time and continue to produce what is consistently decent high-level content rather than rushing out something inferior, mediocre or lacklustre just to appease the minority, many of whom seem to be more than a little impatient. If you're going to continue to complain to JCS about dropping more videos maybe you should reconsider whether the $1 per month is worth it to you? If it isn't that's fair enough and understandable - but for the majority of us, $1 per month (or $12 per year) for at least one new video per month is well worth it!! Also, the more people who join JCS and add to that monthly fund (currently at nearly $40,000 a month), I am confident we will see an increase in that monthly video count as they will be able to hire more staff to work on every aspect of these videos. The more profits that are made, the more staff to be brought on board, leading to more productivity, which for us equals less time to wait between new videos due to the increase in output. Either way, I would much rather one new JCS video per month than NO new JCS videos.. keep up the awesome work!

Don't feel bad for being empathetic. This dude did a really bad thing, but he is still a person and likely he was abused and is repeating a sick fucked up cycle. America has a fetish for punishment and dehumanization of people who've done heinous things, and all it is is a reflection of our own self-realization that we're all capable of doing horrible things. Our culture tells us there is no redemption once you've crossed a particular line, and it leads us to ignore the fact that we need to help these people and make a cultural and economic effort to prevent these kinds of crimes from happening. It keeps us from taking responsibility for the repercussions of our whole system. We can't stop this kind of predation without addressing the core issues in these kinds of people that lead them to offend. Punishment can only get us so far. We need to focus on rehabilitation, education, and awareness around sex crimes of all different types. Don't ever let go of your ability to feel empathetic, even for the most repugnant of people. It's not a fault or a weakness. It's what separates us from those who care only about themselves and their own social standings. We can prevent this kind of shit from happening. But only if we approach it from a loving and rational, yet firm and unapologetic standpoint. Otherwise, we're just going to end up creating more punishments that don't work and only burden the tax payer and creating a cyclical system of recidivism.

I had that problem one time as well. I think the trick to get landscape is you have to start the video a particular way. When I do it this way I always get landscape. ** When you choose a video to watch, press the icon in the middle of the screen. Then it will show the icon bar at the bottom of the video, on the bottom right side of the screen/bar you’ll see the icon/symbol to enlarge the screen HIT THIS FIRST. It should cause your screen to go dark except for the video in the middle, you can then flip your phone to landscape and hit the start button- this has always worked for me. If I just hit start after choosing the video when the bar shows at the bottom I can’t get landscape either.. hope that works for you!! I know my JCS videos are my legal crack lol!

So to try and answer your question as best I can as an American and "TCAP-er" (someone who routinely watches the interviews/interrogations mainly for the unintentional comedy of seeing a piece of human garbage destroy their lives), the show is staged but real. What I mean by this is that Dateline rents a property which becomes the "sting house". Inside the property, they will fit the entire front rooms, entryways, hallways, etc with hidden cameras. In stings such as this one in Kentucky, they go too far in my opinion by making the living room look like a TV set. However, the predators they catch are 100% real. They're also really really stupid; either that or their compulsions are just so strong all common sense goes out the window. One of the funnier aspects is listening to the decoys talk to them, and it's so blatantly obvious that they are a decoy and not real but the predators just don't care. So while yes there is a set staged in the sting house, the predators who are tricked into coming are thinking they are going to there to have sex with a minor only to instead meet....Chris Hanson.

Question to Americans that may know better, is To Catch a Predator staged to some extent? The quality of recording, the camera angles, it all seems like they're in a studio or at least the camera crew is present in the room when the predator first comes in and has the conversation with the "victim". How does it work?

I feel like I might be too gullible because I did feel some sympathy towards his situation. Not to the degree that he doesn't deserve his punishment but in some way that his situation is part of what created the "monster". Like the narrator pointed out this is how he was probably raised by his mother to not face consequences and the first time he did was at 26. But then looking at everything he did was self serving as well even when talking to the interrogator he wasn't not reflective on his actions or anything. He was just trying to avoid punishment again. This is why I really like these videos it makes me rethink how I view people.

But it’s important to publicize as much as possible. One of the things that terrifies these scumbags the most is the risk of exposure. If we publicly humiliate, shame them, then prosecute them and put them away, that’s a pretty dang good deterrent for future offenders.

Weird but despite my best judgement I maintained a shred of sympathy for him throughout. I'm glad he got punished, he deserved it. But not hard to see how his naivety and insecurity were formed by his disability, a circumstance out of his control. He's clearly been traumatized to some degree by his disability, and I guess his insecurity amongst peers translated to the need to dominate someone younger, since he could never see himself as having power with someone his own age.

When I first saw the dateline videos I was disgusted by these guys showing up to meet kids, but in some cases I never really thought about just how dangerous the people were. This is a prime example, he isn't physically intimidating but he is so manipulative. I read American Predator and listened to the Podcast “True Crime Bullshit” about him which I highly recommend. From the book the author says the District Attorney was allowed to question Keyes which made so much sense after listening to the podcast or watching the interrogations because the interrogator kept interrupting and being a total idiot.
