The Psychology of Ted Bundy

Comments

Bundy was getting his kicks playing into this anti porn preacher’s hands. That, and the attention is why he did the ‘interview’. Don’t be fooled by his BS.

Cassandra Rowlands

Audio is all messed up man, incredibly disappointing that this still hasn’t been fixed

Kaden Thompson

That’s why it says you need headphones the audio only comes from one side.

what’s going on with the audio in his final interview??

Media does not put in you the ability to do something bad (or good for that matter) It just makes you more creative. No normal person will look at violent porn and go "I wanna do that", just like with horror movies. If that were the case we'd have much, MUCH more violent crimes then we already do. You can not avoid seeing violence, it is in everyday life, in fiction, on the news, in history, even around you, so if seeing violence made you commit violence then we'd all be homicidal maniacs. You can become addicted to porn, but not in the same way you get addicted to meth. When you become addicted to porn, you are addicted to the chemicals you brain produces when consuming it. Those who become addicted are already susceptible to those addictions more than the average person and can theoretically become addicted to anything as long as as it makes them happy.

As a sort of sadist myself I firmly believe every word out of his mouth. He is receiving dopamine from his excuses and talks. It’s the only thing keeping him goof at that point.

Watching with headphones, the entire interview w Dobson isn't audible at all anyone find a solution to this?

found jesus at the end? yeh right, played everyone for a fool till the end, hate it when he used the term 'mutual friend' in the interview, who's got the inclination to befriend that, lets see them do that when it's their daughter he sliced up and had sex with for days

Dobson makes me mad. It's almost like they're working together for personal gain, just annoying to watch

Thing that makes me the angriest is when it came to bundy all they ever talked about was the morality.

You believe he wasn't truthful in that final interview?

nothx

Shorter: I'm not saying it was pornography, I take responsibility for my action. But, yeah, it was just pornography. He is so skilled in giving Dobson what he wants. And Dobson is so self-righteous that Dobson only cares about his agenda.

Paul Day

I truly believe this was a last ditch effort to “save me I can help you convict and find more serial killers paaaaaalease”

Dang man.

Listening to Ted Bundy about the Evils of 'Violent' pornography makes about as much sense as listening to only Catholic priest about how to avoid child molestation.

What was the name of the psychiatrist? If you can remember because i can’t find the doc anywhere

Lol

Tara Jackson

You are now ready Jedi. Jim must be proud

Every villain is lemons!

Not working

The entire Dobson interview is deceptive. Bundy keeps jumping between these abstract ideas - violence, pornography, violent pornography, violence in the media - all related but too distinct to use interchangeably. A person speaking from actual experience, especially one as thoughtful as Bundy, would attach some particular personal importance to one of these concepts, or at least break away from the abstract terms at some point. Instead Bundy jumps between them with no rhyme or reason. He can't even follow Dobson's lead and focus on the porn until late in the interview (the point where the narrator jumps in to highlight his phony remorse), because this is all still a half-baked plan of desperation conceived in the strange mental state of death row. Bundy's goal with that interview was still self-preservation, hoping to show that he could be useful alive as a spokesman against societal ills. There are no actual descriptions in the interview or in the official account of his life that of how he actually went through addictive processes or demonstrated escalating needs for stimulation. In fact whenever Dobson invites him to give specifics and describe the presumed breaking point where fantasy was no longer enough, Bundy dodges the question or pretends that he's had such a moral reversal that it's too painful to recollect. It was just a narrative that he thought he could act out to stay alive another day.

Hououin Kyouma

I wonder if him claiming that he had a good upbringing is part of his narcissistic tendencies, in the sense that he doesn't want to share or diminish the 'credit' for what he did. Trying to show that he wasn't created by his parents or environment but was forged by his own choices and experiences. Violent media and pornography is abstract enough to not take away from what he felt he accomplished.

This guy's nose itches frequently... I've heard that a nose itch can be associated with sexual or personal gratification

Why does it say headphones required? Watched the entire thing on TV....

Worked fine for me, without headphones.

Those who enjoyed this need to watch the documentary Crazy Not Insane, you will be mind blown! There was a female psychiatrist that had secret interviews with Ted Buddy that she hid and were never released to the public and she was actually the last person to sit down with him before he was put to death. She also has in depth analysis’ on other serial killers that are so interesting!

The audio isn't working. Its just scratchy. I'm using my Bluetooth headphones

Joseph Cirino

45:22 holy shit Ted's mask completely falls here. He's thinking about that girl and notice he's increasingly pressing his lips together - either in a self-shushing motion or suppressing obvious desire - and rubbing at the spot above his lips. He even glares vehemently at the Christian guy (45:53) in an unmasked sign of agitation. He tries to play it off as shame and regret ('Oh I can't talk about that...') but he's terrible at it.

Yuna

Hmmmm... it was fine for me.

dude he raped and murdered children who cares how he felt.

Parker Holmes

I can't tell if you're being funny or not with the "iPad" comment. Haha! Cause... You do know this was WAY before iPads, yeah? Just making sure. Lol But I definitely agree that the typing on the typewriter was friggin annoying as crap. So loud and distracting.

SpyroShurtagul

Cant hear the last interview unless I crank the volume all the way up and even then its very quiet. And yes, I am wearing headphones.

agreed

You had the sound on but you weren't actually listening to and hearing what was said

You completely missed the point, not everyone who watches aggressive porn will commit sex crimes but MOST of the people who commit sex crimes watch aggressive porn

so much better than the netflix show lol

theo

Lol at people believing this crazy nut’s explanation for his awful crimes. Hundreds of thousands of people watch porn now (much of it aggressive) with the internet being so accessible and they aren’t committing sex crimes

This interview sounds like anti-porn propaganda ...

Christie DeSapio

I agree with you regarding porn, things are worse no doubt but I have a hard time believing him tbh To me it sounds like he was choosing his words very carefully in order to say just the right things perhaps in the hopes he would gain more time. He did say exactly what an influential evangelical wanted to hear imo

Something very odd going on with the audio. Using earphones and I just here a scratching in the interview with bundy.

Matthew (Zei)

You have to use headphones.

MsVeracity

I couldn't hear a lick of the final interview what gives

Pensacola gang B)

Bundy was deceptive right up until the end, I take everything he said in his last interview with a pinch of salt.

All psychopaths and sociopaths know what is right from wrong we just don't care we want to satisfy our need or do what we want to get what we want regardless of the consequences. I am a diagnosed sociopath, but to add to that not all psychopaths or sociopaths are killers.

Arkan

The audio for Bundy's last interview is messed up. I only hear weird whispering noises.

Post hoc rationalization. I think he would have acted this way no matter his exposure to porn.

It's sad because we didnt learn. Violent porn has only gotten worse and more accessible.

They have to have a record (transcript) on paper every court in the US does this

look up cognitive empathy vs. emotional empathy, it's what makes narcissists such effective manipulators

Very possibly. But, I notice in his discourse he's hinting at 'evil spirits' in his allusion to 'something deep' within, etc. I perceive this interview as him trying to convince the interviewer that he's not evil, but rather the victim of some external Satanic influence. Using phrases like: "It was like coming out of a horrible trance or dream' - "a separate entity inside", he constantly alludes to a moral inner struggle, as if he's being overwhelmed & conquered by a force larger than himself - perhaps an external, metaphysical, evil. Used and exploited by this force. He refers back to his church and wobbling around a delicate and constantly embattled moral compass. He uses words like "assailed and tested' 'I became myself again' 'my basic spirirt was intact, but became overwhelmed at times' 'possessed by something alien' etc - very religious rhetoric, the sort of textual content & context often used when discussing saints, Jesus, etc and their wrestling with temptations. It seems as if he's trying to get the interviewer on his side to call for some clemency on a religious grounds. Ted tries to ask us to believe it was difficult to talk about - after he beat people to death; slept with rotting corpses, planned escapes and kidnaps and goodness knows what else. He committed pretty much every possible crime - but now, in his final hours - he's getting coy about discussing his crimes and murderous mental state? Surely this interview is his last conniving throw of the dice; not an authentic testimony of self-discovery and analysis. He knew full well who he was speaking with. Ted specifically requested to speak with Dr Dobson who is well-known for his stance against pornography and his religious - nay, celebrity evangelical - position.

Chris Gilroy

and his dog...until he poisoned it. :/

Chris Gilroy

What baffles me is how can psychopaths and malignant ideators replicate emotions so successfully when they cannot authentically sense and appreciate them? It seems to be contrary to logic and also the whole premise of the Stanislavsky 'school' of the acting 'method'. Who do they do and frequently seem to convince non-psychopaths of their emotions? Are people so easily hoodwinked?

Chris Gilroy

why the heck was the statement typed down if the whole thing was videotaped? Tha sound of the typing is really annoying

Headphones aren't required. GREAT video!

Roicee

I feel Bundy, even at his exit interview, held people at arms length emotionally. He didn't open up and really show us what was going on with him. There was a little bit but he didn't spill the beans on much of his experiences.

Narcissists will rarely blame themselves for their actions. Bundy is even blaming pornography for his murders. I will say this though: there is a big correlation between aggression and pornography... and pornography and Christianity. Those I've known who watched a lot of porn grew up in Christian or Catholic homes that told them that sex was a bad thing.

An interesting question, would like some insight into this too...

Why use a picture of Hitler for NPD? Love him or hate him, he was a very loving man who cared deeply for his people.

Would a psychopath recognize another psychopath much sooner than someone that was not?

I actually believe Bundy is being earnest, or at least there is a significant nugget of honesty in his interview with Dobson.

Somebody get this man some ChapStick.

ariesfairy

Yes I do maybe it's a copyright issue

The interview parts with Ted Bundy has no audio to it but Jim’s commentary audio is there. Anyone else having this issue with the video?

If Ted Bundy was truly evil, does that mean he was not a psychopath? He knew and felt that what he was doing was wrong but he chose to do it anyway? Or was he a psychopath and he knew conceptually (but not emotionally) that what he did was wrong?

It’s not letting me post this on an edit but I want to say his lawyers he consulted said if he did 3 or so years evidence would decompose and witnesses would die and he’d get off most likely. But his pride got in the way and he defended himself. (Not even something best attorneys do)

They said that his blame on pornography influences affecting him and countless others was his final “fuck you” to society. Once again passing the buck of blame off himself and turning it on something that was prettt controversial at the time. He was a genuine sociopath. His choice to represent himself buried him. Most attorneys say all he had to do was wait a few years till evidence decomposing and witnesses either died or couldn’t remember and he might of walked. But his ego got the best of him

Never seen the full interview before the execution. I don't know what to think about it to be honest. He was a demon disguised as human being, he knew perfectly what/how/when to do and what/how/when to say. The most clear proof you can relate in his behaviour as Malignant pwNPD (apat from grandiosity) is the total lack of remorse/guilt to the victims and their families. He was so full of himself that he thought he was a god, playing with his victims like objects.

How ridiculous is that insanely loud keyboard in the middle of everything! The courtroom is being filmed with surprisingly good quality. Move her off to the side and give her a damn iPad!

Why does it say headphone req

Jacob Salmonds

That is an excellent analysis. I often sensed the same things but didn't know how to put it into words. You're a smarty! :)

JM

Well done as usual. Satan personified. Like most evil, beguiling.

Sheryl Caballero

The whole interview is just a clear display of Bundy being a narcissist. He clearly has understood all about his interviewer and adapts his behavior to the man's expectations while thriving on the thought of being able to tell his own version of the story to the world. He had to be in control until the very moment of his execution. I doubt anyone ever got to see the real Ted Bundy buried under tons of layers of personalities (the competent lawyer, the loving boyfriend, the helpless handsome young man with his arm in a sling and so on...) created by his extreme narcissism.

The interviewer was too soft. Let him off, poor him, blame porn. This was a guy who didn't even admit to all of his crimes. Escaped and immediately did it again.

48:44 look at his expression while confirming the remark by the interviewer. It says it all. If the interviewer didn't have this need to find some humane and honest religious elements in Bundy's persona it would have become a much better conversation. But I believe Bundy choose this man so he would be able to control the interview by playing with the subsidiary need for redemption felt by the interviewer.

Just twice. But in the same city in Colorado. They were naive.

Caleb Coleman

So you proclaim that "we aren't barbarians anymore", yet you want to confine an individual against his will and pump him full of chemicals and see what happens? First of all, the names of mental ilnesses are just a sum of other characteristics, to give you an example there is psychopath checklist, which (if I remember correctly) have 50 characteristics, and if a person checks set number of those, only then he is considered a psychopath. Plus it's just a confirmation tool for somebody that has been declared a psychopath by a proffesional. So there can be no one "psychopath pill". And if there was such a thing it would have to be applied before any violent crimes have taken place, and that's not even considering that a large portion of psychopaths are heads of big companies and can find place in society. "Healing" a man like Bundy would create a person with such guilt sensation, that death would seem like freedom. And in keeping with the theme - we are not barbarians anymore, we don't torture even the most vile humans we encounter. All they get is death or life in prison, which in contrast what they have done to their victims seems... mercyful.

Remember when they released thagt netflix show and it spawned a load of misguided apologists who liked his late century chic

He escaped 3 times!? That is insane

Love how that religious fool is doomed by Bundy.

Caleb Coleman

I truly enjoyed the ceiling map of the Colorado county jail he crawled threw. Pulled the old Andy Dufrense out the front door.

Sound doesn't work

I really loved this video...the level of manipulation he used to even win over the judge in the end during his sentencing..the judge was basically saying "man..if you weren't a serial killer I would have loved to hang out with you"..this is an insane sentiment for a judge to have

I wouldn’t describe this as a disease per se, serial murder it’s a waste bi-product of a dis -functional society, it’s liken to a sexual preference or habit. We all know that the human condition is a strange concept which is still a mystery to most individuals that declare themselves ‘Normal’ habits are formed by external influence affecting the chemistry of an individual with this particular leaning. As far as treatment, well that is another discussion, society demands pay back to ease the anger and sense of retribution, it’s true insomuch as the abhorrent act of destroying a life is unimaginable.

Omg finally. Thank you for making this video, I don’t feel like reading all the comments to see if my question was asked but here it is. If the chemical or hormone vasopressin isn’t just a theory but a known fact in contributing to Bundy’s problem, do you know if there are any meds to balance that yet? And if not, why? This is the first psychology of him I’ve found that seems credible and not just a lawyers opinion or a civilians opinion. This is why he should have been studied more. And idk if he was maybe in secret(studied)? Also, why all the debate on whether or not pornography had anything to do with it? Bundy said he didn’t think it’s only porn. If there’s medical evidence claiming to know which chemicals might be contributing, then he could have been a Guinea pig for treatment. Right? Did I misunderstand it? We can’t compare hitler to ted bundy either. But I am of the opinion that all the darkest personality disorders are NOT incurable, but they’re so reviled and scary that no one is willing to even TRY to cure them. And I don’t mean with therapy ok. They need to start figuring it out gd. We can’t just kill everyone with evil streaks and say they’re hopeless. They should be confined and battered with every test we have. We aren’t barbarians anymore. Get the endocrinologists and neuroscientists and psychiatrists etc etc all together and figure this shit out! It’s no less important than any other disease.

Christa Mullen

Scratch that. It works fine on my computer. But when listening to it on my phone, the audio is broken, but only on the James Dobson interview

Hey JCS, the audio on the Ted Bundy / James Dobson is completely broken, at least whenever I tried to play it. Any way it can be fixed?

Take your politics somewhere else

Bundy knows he's talking to a right-wing idiot and so tells him everything that he wishes to hear-if he had of told the fool that the vietnam war with all its attending horrors, was the trigger,we wouldn't be hearing a word of this interview.People like Hitler and Stalin are very unlikely to have seen hard-core porn as twelve year olds.

Me too! Are we the only ones not seeing the other cases?

I think that porn is more of an enhancer than an enabler when it comes to violence.

Obviously violent porn doesn't have the same effect on everyone. I'm sure it's true that serial killers have violent porn in common. But he seems to be leaving out the notion that it can ignite a particular type of person to do deeds no one else would be capable of. I get the feeling he wants us to think it could have this effect on anyone, & I read that as a sort of "misery loves company" approach. For all his insight, he wants us to think he isn't fundamentally different from "normal" people. And across from the table from him, you've got this religious guy who thinks all types of porn, probably even "soft" porn, are sinful & horrible, so he's just lapping this all up with a spoon. Who better to have one's beliefs validated by than Ted Bundy!! Anyway, I'm not really buying it. Not all of it, anyway.

Yeah I was thinking something along those lines.

andy MACKAY

Imagine being one of those hippies driving through beautiful Aspen Colorado in ‘75, coming to a roadblock where police tell you that they will search your vehicle in search of escaped serial killer Ted Bundy. You’re not worried about getting abducted and murdered, you’re worried about the pounds of weed in your car that the police are going to find and for which you will now be arrested. Damn would I be pissed at Bundy for putting me in that tight spot.

I'm also using headphones, i can hear clearly with the sound volume at 80%

yeah I'm using headphones and I can't hear I need a reupload or subs

He calls the torture, mutilation and agonizing death he caused these girls "harm"... and he blames pornography, he should have requested Jerry Falwell do the interview.

Christie DeSapio

how does he have a car with the front seat taken out, and his girlfriend never noticed? did he have a second car?

Robert

I lovevtrees, animals, oceans, mountains, forests, deserts, galaxies, .

I don't have a god.

I'm a "Christian psychologist". (I get where your insult is there, so don't think it doesn't go over my head.) I see it this way -- Everyone has a god. Some people are pretty darn prideful and promote themselves to god. Completely their choice to gamble eternity on their opinion of themselves lol. Others promote cows. The biggest one in the Middle East promoted a child molestor. Some just believe in an Unseen Hand. But make no mistake - no one is truly an atheist. Everyone has something they worship as the "greatest being in existence"...their "god".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8ZqVrk1k9s

I think that's why it says "headphones required"

"Christian psychologist", I wonder what his definition off mass psychosis looks like

Skynet

Sound doesnt work in the main interview

Has anyone else seen the Green River Killer documentary? Interviews with Ted Buddy were considered vital in the apprehension of Gary Ridgeway, specifically because of the unique insight he provided. In particular, Ted predicted that Gary was revisiting dump sites to perform sex acts on the dead bodies, which turned out to be true.

Danielle Folsom

the reveal of how Bundy's trade-sadism is the thing that stops him from being a psychopath was SO cool to learn about. Thanks so much Jim!

Would be nice if you could reload the just the interview with the Christian psychologist, with sound or subs!

He must be the most dangerous individual I’ve ever heard off

When he (Bundy) spoke of walking “through the valley of the shadow of death” (Psalm 23) he didn’t mention or she’s a tear for those who were thrust into that valley by him, under far more stressful circumstances than his. I only saw Bundy here- did I miss something? Lots of comments about other cases here. Hmm.

I only see the Ted Bundy video but a lot of the comments here suggest there used to be other videos linked above. Am I right? Were links taken down, or am I bad at using this site?

Benn M

Using headphones

Its because you need headphones. It says it in the description

Isn’t the audio messed up for the interview in the middle of the video? The entire interview is inaudible for me, which is most of the video

Fascinating to learn that Bundy may not have been psychopathic, in that he needed true empathy in order to understand and feed off the terror of his victims.

do one on ed kemper please! this was amazing

Can someone help me understand how I’ve missed this gem apparently the entire time it’s been up?!?

Elena

the audio from 18:28 to 22:15 cant be heard, anyone else have that issue?

If you believed her story you need a lot more than an authority to help you.

Stfu Jamie. We won’t take you as an authority, you don’t even know to capitalize your own name, moron. Touching story Brandon, thanks!

You are gullible af. She was guilty as sin.

I'm happy the Kelly girl was found not guilty. Yeah her crying in the interview did get a little cringy but I really think it was probably a accident like she said. They said her story changed at the end but it didnt change at all. She said from day one that he left, came back, she thought it was a robber or something so she got the gun. Then she realized it was him but they got in a fight and he put it to his head and boom she accidentally shot him. I believe her story because to be 100 percent honest I could see myself doing them same thing, actually I've done something similar two times in my life. The first time was when my first gf died. She died in a car accident when I was in high school and I took it really hard. I wanted to die because every day I would wake up and be ok for a few mins until I remembered Tina's gone. I am a musician and I use to walk up and down my block at night singing and playing guitar as it was the only thing that helped me get out my sorrow. One night one of my neighbors came out while he was drunk and literally came up to me and said "you do this every fucking night you little shit why cant you shut the fuck up" then he grabbed me by the throat and started choking me. I was in such a depression that I just looked at him and kept telling him " do it go ahead I want to die please irs better then being without her" after I said that he must of snapped out of his rage because he let go started crying and said he was so sorry and that I need to keep living because that's what Tina would of wanted and left. Anyways I'm just saying if have done that shit so hearing the Kelly girls story actually does seem like a legit honest recollection of what happened that night.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOOODDDD! I was like joking and then BAM!

Really annoying for everyone though isnt it

Neither were my eardrums.

991 BABY!

The last case was the best case, in my opinion. We have a murder mystery on our hands! (I would've loved to hear if they could have subpoenaed phone records from the other guy to prove they had met or arranged for a meeting prior. Otherwise, he'd have little reason to have his DNA in the apartment. )

Gary Dunn kidnapping trial is next week. I think it was pretty clear by body language and forceful denial that Nona’s boyfriend didn’t kill her. https://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2019/jul/18/kidnapping-trial-moved-to-ozark-2019071/

It doesn't know. Your gut. " She was genuine " . You are funny.

I never let the video do the thinking for me and I feel the jury upheld a proper verdict of not guilty in murdering her husband. She may have forced hyperventilation but she was genuine. She did not have 5 stories she had 1 story with 5 equal parts. Each of the "stories" were one part of what happened that night. It was dark, he came back unannounced, he probably did put the gun to his head in a joking manner abd said shoot me. She was defending her property. She would have never killed him on purpose. She did not even put the gun to his head. All she did was retrieve the gun and point it. Then she saw who it was. She wasnt going to shoot but he was drunk and he grabbed it like a drunk idiot. He was drinking and driving super drunk so the guy makes dumb choices. The gun went off because they both had their hands on it while they were extremely drunk. My gut always knows... I dont know why...

It is not unnatural to be hysterical when handcuffed in a police station, especially if you are young and your experience is mistreatment by police officers.

2:30-7:35 The epitome of human garbage. Clearly a narcissistic princess used to daddy swooping in & cleaning up all her messes. It gives me a warm & fuzzy feeling inside knowing she's rotting in a cell where she belongs. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she screams her trashy, degenerate mouth off at the wrong inmates who do not hesitate putting her in her place. It's vile enough when spoiled, bratty children throw temper tantrums & their parents enable them; it's down right repulsive & pathetic when adults do it.

Goddamn, Karen. Guilty AF. The crying sounds soooo fake, it's absurd.

Omg! Exactly why we have to have due process and beyond a reasonable doubt. Kevin looked guilty af! I am now sure it was the neighbor. Looks like cops had tunnel vision. Poor guy. And the drunk lady...I think she got off because of her highly intoxicated state. I know it’s not a total defense but come on.. we love hating. We love punishing the overly dramatic obvious narcissists. I’ve just watched so many trials interrogations and updates ..it’s scary af how someone so seemingly guilty can be exonerated and all the incriminating af evidence be easily explained years and years and years later ..idk..just never good to have the cops focused on you!!

please do one on polygraphs only, mentioning its meaning and effectiveness thx

stop ruining it u douchebag

The last case surprised me. Is he innocent after all?

Linus Wärn

He living 😆

just shows that lie detectors don't fucking work. US justice system for real for real...joke!

Caryn, stfu.

Wow. All of that yelling. Damn.

You don't honestly believe touching something always leaves usable prints, do you? A lot of the time you might get partials or no useable prints simply because of sweat. Your prints will smear if your finger slides on the object.

lol Cops find a single bloody finger print... guy must be spiderman because I've never been able to pick up a lamp with only one finger.

Notice the smile as soon as she was read not guilty and the tears dissappeared, those were crocodile tears the whole time because she was worried about spending her life in jail, what a joke of a jury for not seeing through this crazy chick

Tyler Lavoie

Wow caryn kelly, I’ve never heard worse acting before in my life

Tyler Lavoie

- 7:50 not watchable, please sub over the screaming dear Jim. kiss

^super true

The people who make these interview rooms really need to ask someone about acoustics. A simple backup recording at a lower level would ensure that no amount of yelling could make the recording unintelligible. I don't have much better acoustics in my bathroom. Some wallpaper and carpets would help a great deal.

ya know guys i think she did something

I worked with both Jesse and Jason before they moved to Texas. She was truly such a lovely girl. It is still so surreal to watch something about her murder. Jason always gave me the creeps - he would hit on all of the underage hostesses constantly and was just a major creep. So heartbreaking all around :(

...she does have great hair though..

I love watching police interrogations. yet, at the same time I hate watching police interrogations. Why does 90% of all police interrogations have the worst cameras known to man and even worse audio recording equipment?

Innocent wow, that was a shocker. She is absolutely guilty, no doubt. You can tell even in the reaction when she walks out of the court.

"I'm not crying or screaming!"

Ok guys, im at 15:42 I don't know how this turns out yet, but the woman on the phone sounds like she is acting. I am right? :D

Ha! She reminded me so much of my ex...Thank God I got away from her. I thought the same thing the whole time - borderline...Only those who have suffered at their hands will understand.

Because they think the second they ask for legal representation it makes them guilty

I'm interested to know why the majority of these people (mostly in USA), don't ever ask for a lawyer to be present? Is it like some sort of unspoken admission of guilt to lawyer up in these circumstances ?

Wow, the interrogation room microphone was NOT prepared for that woman.

Jack Landis

Predictive Processing Framework - interesting! Actually explains quite well how flashbacks work, triggers and hypervigilance when you endured kinds of trauma physically or psychological trauma. I know first hand that it is often said or perceived that trauma survivors have a kind of heightened intuition which has nothing to do with anxiety or hypervigilance, it's almost some kind of different maturity in the head (lol) once possible anxiety or hypervigilance, flashbacks and triggers from endured trauma are healed, very useful. ;)

Trauma Punks

She was a terrible cryer. In my experience, people can usually compose themselves enough to answer a question. I bet the cops were wanting to slap the hell outta her. Lol

Joseph Brzezinski

How did the Jury find that woman not guilty? WoW!

Huh, I actually left that segment pretty convinced he did it. Honest people almost never speak to their own honesty, and he was putting all of his energy into being convincing. While the latter in particular could just be indicative of someone genuinely pleading for innocence it's also what a competent liar would do if they chose that particular tactic. The fact that he two or three times referred to himself as honest or said "honestly" made me lean towards deception.

Hi, my name is officer- I DIDN'T KILL THAT BOY! Some interrogations are harder that others...

Oh my God that blonde woman was so annoying!!!

It's called a "pussy pass"

"I'm not crying or screaming!!!" BRUH

Anyone else kinda find that woman's hysterics in the first interrogation kinda funny?

The blonde woman in the "it was an accident" case.. something I found not quite right was her hands weren't shaky.. anyone I've experienced having that strong of an emotional response has always been shaking like a leaf.. maybe nothing but feels off

Wow, Joe, you sound like a real catch. How's your mom's basement been treating you the last 40 years?

How did this drunken idiot get away with this?

First case: This is PRECISELY why I would be a TERRIBLE police officer - I’d have TOTALLY lost it with that screeching banshee!

Another responsible gun owner and brain dead Florida jury. And all that wailing and no tears. Just one more reason I will never set foot in that state.

catbyte

*”hyperventilating” ;)

The first girl's screaming gave me a headache.

love you jim! i think some vids need subtitles though. . the auto generate ones dont work very well

The only time I see there being an issue with digging a hole, is if the ground is frozen or covered in snow. Otherwise I completely agree. Maybe adrenaline kicks in and they get to scared to keep digging, so they can make a deep enough grave?

Crafty Criminalist

Shut the f up woman. You think crying and calling your dad can make you escape a rest?

I was gonna be mad if that last guy got charged, everything he was saying seemed genuine and after watching so many of these it seems like he was saying the things that innocent people say not guilty ones. He was assertive about not doing it every time he was asked

sorry little kid, your dad aint gonna help you anymore

Kevin Jones seems like such a good kid. He came across as so innocent to me. Poor guy.

Karen Kelly murdered him cause he was leaving her. She got away with murder.

The woman that shot her boyfriend seriously has borderline personality disorder. She is nuts.

Thank god for our criminal justice system. In the last one I believed the boyfriend didn't do it as well, and if he did he should be given an Oscar. It still scares me to death that a single bloody fingerprint (or alternatively DNA on a condom wrapper) could almost send you to prison for life, but at least we have a system.

Jesus, detectives have such patience - I'm surprised the detectives could listen to that bitch Karen for so long, thank god the crying ended when it did what a fucking horrible bitch.

That last case, i believed the boyfriend didn't do it either. He may have done it, but his actions in the interrogation seemed very genuine to me. It was most likely the neighbor. It's a shame someone got away with killing that poor girl.

He...can’t..be....gooooone... takes a sip of water while hyperventilating.....

Rest in peace, speakers

Why is it ALWAYS a SHALLOW GRAVE? 😂 I work with my hands for a living, if I was going to kill somebody, I would at least take the time to dig a decent hole it doesn't take that long people god damn! 😆

The woman at the end was unbearable sober and drunk. Shit.

You can tell that first girl gets anything she wants by yelling. So obnoxious.

The girl in the first interrogation was SO loud it hurt my ears

8:04 YIKES!!! Wow! Well I’ve gotta say MY intuition or gut-feeling, in response to this guy’s somewhat wild expression & ‘crazed’ fixed stare captured in the mugshot, is telling me: “Yep, I think we just might have found our guy!”

mooing at 23:15

Maaan i wish these recorded interrogations had better quality, its sometimes extremely hard to listen to

What a Drama Queen... All fake from the minute she made the phone call. She is Guilty...

Karen should’ve been jailed for that phone call alone. That was so painful to listen to, the worst acting I’ve come across in all the years of crime show/video watching. Heaviest cringe

everything about karen sounds obnoxious and fake.

Probably a psychological one up on the suspect type thing

Holy bullshit Batman that lady who shot her husband was so annoying! Those investigators have so much patience I'd have to walk out on that nonsense.

Lilly

They ain't admisable in court for that exact reason.. people can beat them and innocent people can fail them

30 years for kidnapping is a very long time. If our prison system is truly a reformatory as it's supposed to be, he should be a model citizen by now.

Hot or famous, that's the rule. I'm neither, so I will remain a law-abiding citizen

Are you trying to be funny or just racist? It kind of sucks either way

Generally when someone has an affair, the boytoy isn't the murderer, the bf is...

Agreed. That was bad acting, even for porn standards.

Sunshine Sherpa

Jasons eyes are so scary. So blank, wide and filled with coldness. I dont know how she ever looked in his eyes and saw love, protection and comfort... very creepy and sad for sure.

ShanneAnn

The woman who shot her boyfriend: when she’s crying in interrogation after having “learned” of his death...just ridiculous. I’ve been through the sudden/unexpected deaths of (2) young family members and also, as a RN, have witnessed the immediate reactions of family members and loved ones upon learning of patient’s death many times. You’re so on point when you mention Hollywood as a source of misconceptions!

Eugh that Caryn, jesus what a performance, I'm only half way through her bullshit tears, I'd be tempted to tell her to shut the fuck up!

And as for the last case it was obviously the neighbor! Why else would there be an empty condom wrapper with his DNA on it I can't believe the jury didn't see that! I feel terrible for the boyfriend there's nothing worse than losing a loved one and then being blamed for it when you didn't do it and did everything in your power to try and save the person that's just an awful thought he should have sued for emotional damage!

Sally Violet

Her blowing her nose even confirms this more to me...

Sally Violet

Why do cops depend so much on polygraph tests when they’re unreliable? I’ve even seen a case where fingerprint experts were wrong. I doubt the average person knows how much trouble they’ll be in if their significant other turns up dead and they really are innocent.

I dont think the boyfriend did it . you can tell from the start he didn't

Chantell Johnson

I could barely get through the first few mins of this video because that girl was so insufferable.

I'm not crying or screaming!! Continues to cry and scream... What a nutter..

not saying shes innocent ofcourse but if i were arrested and i wasnt told why and i hadnt done anything i would probably be just as hysterical, and im white!

That woman on the showbiz panel gave a 'right on, sister' as they said she shot him to protect her home. Pretty revealing

Kevin: I didn't! I wasn't there! Detective: You knew. Kevin: Noididnot, noididnot, noididnot! Million times noididnot!

I really don't know how he does it. Maintaining a monotone while discussing these horror show people...

I really enjoy your work Jim. This is one of your best videos yet. I like the way you handled the last case in particular where you remain as "objective" as you possibly can. I am not being sarcastic either. Keep up the great work.

Don't worry Jim, I can't swim either. What you can do is help to satisfy my true crime ... obsession, for which I'm happy to pay my $1. Thanks much!!!

“no excuse viable” what about reasonable doubt? we all know she did it but they didn’t have proof

Yeah the neighbor most likely did it. He got his in the end

There was absolutely NOTHING convincing about Caryn. She was ‘crying’ with no tears. And my goodness she was annoying!

Had to skip caryn - I couldn’t stand the performance. I have great respect for the police who have to put up with these things and keep a straight face

The bf in the last one. I totally bought it - he seemed truthful.

A masterful performance by Caryn Kelley. 5 Different lies, and the jury all overlooked that fact and found her not guilty. Incredible

JCS I love your insightful and educational commentary. Thank you,

Hey Jim, you should check out the case of Melissa Brannen in Virginia. That shit dominated the news in that area when I was a kid. They grilled the suspect like a well-done steak and he was never convicted on the murder, but they were able to get him on kidnapping to defile and he got 50 years in prison. Apparently it's been 50 years since 1989 so he's due to be released August 2nd. Oh wait, that's only 30 years. Fucked up.

That woman's crying act is infuriating, so contrived.. Can't believe she actually somehow pulled that off.

I absolutely love your work and would like to see something about the killing of Michael Bell Jr. in Kenosha WI back in 2004

New episode coming tomorrow 4pm ET x

Philip probably did kill himself. If she acted anything like the interrogation.. I don't blame him.

That’s hilarious lol

THIS IS A PRE-EMPTIVE MESSAGE FOR NORMAN PONCE message me and I will walk you through to get your Patreon working

Well, you missed the most important ingredient: severe emotional instability aka crazy ;-)

Definitely over reaction, if she cared that much then why would she jeopardize her job for a single meal? I am a banker in a shady part of NY, the most common tactic I use(against frauds) but perfected from here is- I will indirectly insinuate that it is a fake check/ID or something is wrong with their acc. A guilty person always acts like they are not getting what I am suggesting or will act very interested in their phone, while I will very openly pick up their ID and check for holograms etc. An innocent person immediately asks whats wrong, while actual fraud will just sit there and act disinterested. And you always know they are a fraud when you downright tell em it is a fake ID/check and they try to explain why it is not a fake ID. They will not act offended even for one sec. Long story short a month ago a health worker who got herself added to the account of a 96 year old multi millionaire who had no family and came to withdraw 2.6 million dollars. The first thing my manager asked was "is Mary(mulit millionaire) still alive? If he was incorrect she would have asked to speak to his boss for having the audacity to suggest her joint account holder had already died and she was about to run with the money. Instead her reply was 'yes she is alive' We called elderly abuse immediately . Mary had actually died 2 days ago and my managers instincts were spot on.

A++ Ty jcm

Did the cops meddle with the polygraph test on the last case ?

She deserves 10 years in prison for torturing all of us and the poor judge and jury with countless hours of that horrendous fake crying. Could you imagine having to sit through that day after day...

That bitch deserves a razzie award for the world's worst actress.

And though the topics of the content you make is bleak and disturbing Im just glad I can support you financially !

I haven't commented yet, but I love your stuff Jim ! SO happy I pledged

Second that!

Heh that's America for you. It is not unusual for people to have multiple firearms laying around here and it is in no way illegal.

Rely on your intuition too much however and you become Giuliano Mignini. It's a tightrope!

I have seen a show on ID about Nona Dirksmeyer but I didn't realize how sure her family was, at the time, that her boyfriend was the killer. That is a scary scary situation to be in for him.

Omg this lady is so annoying.

Damn, I don't think that last kid did it. Convincing interrogation and the other accused was a serial kidnapper.

This is why I became a patron. A few months ago, I had to fire an employee for using a guest's credit card to pay for her own dinner. The employee fell to her knees, screamed, cried, and needed physical help to go to a place where she could scream and cry in relative privacy. I was wondering if that over-reaction was common and now I see it in the first person on this video. Thanks, Jim, for verifying my instincts--over-reaction in that ridiculous degree proves guilt.

Christie Scott

another great video jim. Really looking forward to the code part 3 and really any content you put out. Best Dollar ever spent, Hope everyone has a great day

I was thinking the same thing, they were so patient with her whereas I would have lost my shit haha

"seemed genuine"? lol, You're a conman's wet dream! I'd bet you're a christian. Just a guess! And developments about another suspect wouldn't have made it EASIER to feel the boyfriend was innocent, not "tougher"? Yep. You're definitely a christian.

Jace

I wanted to smack Karen in the head and tell her to pull herself together. I don’t know how cops deal with this stuff.

Deb

Wow, that last one took me on a rollercoaster. I honestly felt like Nona’s boyfriend seemed genuine about not doing it, but then again maybe he conned me. I was glad to find out there was further development about another possible suspect as that would’ve made it that much tougher to feel like the boyfriend was innocent.

Who then is the commentator??

jim isnt the one doing the commentary but yeah

Decent looking if you're drunk

Not My Real Name

#TeachJimToSwim2019<3

Jim I especially enjoy the videos that you splice with your commentary and analysis, it makes your videos very unique and educational for me. Without your commentary it does not feel like a Jim Cant Swim video.

Alcohol, easy access to guns, emotional breakup's - recipe for disaster!

Found this on the jason lowe story just wow https://truecrimedaily.com/2018/04/03/heartbroken-dad-discusses-jessie-bardwells-fatal-relationship-with-killer-boyfriend/

Yes but it also says in it Bardwell's parents reported her missing on May 8, 2016, when she didn't call home to Mississippi for Mother's Day. When Richardson police searched the garage and smelled the strong odor of decaying flesh, they arrested Lowe on May 12, 2016 - seven days before Bardwell's decomposed body was found.

I don't know what to think about that last one. That poor girl :(

Mar Mai

so basically, if your a decent looking woman your allowed to shoot someone in the face unprovoked, confess to doing so, and still walk free...

Watching her case ruined my whole day. But a great video as always.

karyn kelly was found not guilty. let that one sink in.

Everybody actin all gangsta till they get arrested for murder. Then the crying for your daddy phase sets in. Someone slap that child so the officer can get his two cents in in peace. You can see she’s a daddy’s princess and always got her way at home by hollering. Well, that won’t work here any more, the detective ain’t your dad, baby.

Surely if you point a loaded gun at someone you must be held accountable if that person is then shot and killed, in the UK if you are found carrying a knive or other offensive weapon then that is enough to demonstrate intent. I would be interested to see what the defense was, since i can't understand how she was able to get off

No surprise another great watch! THANK YOU so much Jim C. Swim. I have been loving your work for quite some time now. I have always been intrigued and fascinated by crime/murder docos, it's hard to find decent ones. I love the way you put together your videos it's just incredible work. Thank you so much love from Perth Aus Chloë xx

I have seen people genuine broken by bad news received. You can feel it when your a bit emphatic. This was obvious to see. If the detectives did not pick up on that they should go patrol the streets again. But they did, so allowed to stay, congrats

Paul Wevers

Another interesting video.

Paul Wevers

Holy shit Jim, your description of the validity of intuition is one of the best arguments I've ever heard. I have always had trouble stating this side of debate because intuition can be mistaken as unscientific or not a valid form of interpretation. I will definitely remember what you said here and might even have to quote it for future debates. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos!

somebody else said it, i can literally hear the dryness of those nose blowings

dude somebody needs to make a gif of caryn "are you ARRESTING me???" well, you said you shot him, so, fuck yeah we are.

26:06 There are probably no tears behind Caryn's hair curtain...

Wow - the dude who murdered his girlfriend obviously switched from a cocaine diet to a prison starch diet - lol! I didn't recognize him at first.

I just listened to the Sword and Scale podcast on the first girl yesterday. Weird timing!

Her interrogation and everything leading up to it was the hardest thing I’ve ever watched. I’m in disgust with her walking free from man slaughter charges and avoiding 2nd or 3rd degree murder. Drunk drivers who are involved in a fatal collision get more prison time than some drunk bitch who shot and killed her boyfriend while highly intoxicated. There is no excuse viable for her to walk free in my eyes. This makes me SICK.

I want to deck Caryn in the mouth and I haven’t even finished the video.

I think he is innocent.

how fake was her crying? she was blowing her nose. it was bone dry,, i knew the kid accused of his gf was innocent this chick should be in jail

Deborah Cassidy

She outwitted the jury

Omg did she really tell reporters she was going to Disney world??? Wow

Clear the cases by remanding him in custody for 18 months? Yeah that's definitely the best way to clear a case, forget innocent until proven guilty. Think before you speak up tommy.

haha i wish he put subtitles for that cause i really couldn't make out anything being said

This video: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jessie-bardwell-verdict-jason-lowe-gets-50-years-in-death-of-girlfriend/ says that Lowe confessed to a friend that Bardwell died. And that he agreed to lead the police to her body if he only got 50 years maximum. So I think your story that they found the body first might be inaccurate.

Shiiiiit. That was frustrating

Prison food is very carby. Lots of starch. If you're sitting on your ass all day you're gonna get fat. Also, commissary.

The last kid was clearly innocent. Detectives gotta clear those cases tho I guess.

An earrape warning would’ve been much appreciated before the first one

After I moved to my new apartment in Austin,Tx I had this idea to look them up online(this was in 2003 so online review was not that common) And I found out a man was shot in my apartments by the cops after he beheaded his wife and had his kid on knife point. After asking around turned out the unit in question was literally the one I was living in!!!!! They were under no legal obligation to inform me of this since insert a million reasons they gave me( it was a lease for a single room inside the 4 bedroom unit). They did give me a sweet deal for the apartment tho. And I thought I was the lucky one for being the only unit in the housing with brand new appliances

she said "um, your boyfriend has passed away."

okay wow this actually has me so messed up right now I drive by that apartment almost every day Jesus

dude I live in Russellville what the hell I never heard of this what

Karen truly gave an Oscar worthy performance. When she started to "sob," I laughed so hard! She really thought she could outwit these investigators.

Sad that they actually found the person who most probably killed that last girl and couldn't prosecute him -- also sad that detectives are so eager to bust the wrong suspect. Caryn Kelly obviously killed her boyfriend in a drunken rage but the jurors didn't want to hold her responsible -- is there something about the boyfriend we don't know? And the difference in the photos of Jason are pretty shocking, from psychotic speed freak to swollen, spaced out on psych meds. Do not fall in love with a pretty face on the internet, people!

991!

I was thinking this same thing.

I should've just left her ass in r

N Cam

Love the content Jim. I was waiting for you to make some more interrogations of innocent people

Volume warning needed on the first one, was hoping the detective would employ a more soothing tone of voice to try and calm her down.

YAYYYYYY TY JIM!

I’m so excited to watch this😁🤓

what did the detective say at 22:44?

Good work Jim!

Nona's case.... a tragedy😥

Omg the first girl ... they killed the guy with a machete and now she was her dad what a bitch

No notification needed -- soon as I saw the last vid go up on your main channel, knew I had to check Patreon ;)

Ben Brown

Thanks Jim, love ya 5eva

Some people are leading up to killing someone their whole lives. A continual slow unraveling of emotional stability that seems to be highly contagious in this emotion driven generation

Really interesting analysis of these cases. Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos - they're fascinating and well done.

First one was too loud!

AmandaCuckhold

Wooooohhhooooo! This made my day! Keep up the good work Jim 👍🏻

Hold on a second, The primary piece of evidence against Kevin Jones was his bloody fingerprint on the lamp BULB? So the detective's narrative is that he grabbed the lamp (with clean hands) bludgeoned her with it, took his hand off of the lamp, got his hand bloody, then touched the light bulb....? And they think that story is more plausible than him simply forgetting that he moved the lamp out of the way at some point when he was administering CPR and forgot about it...? Also, if he had killed her with the lamp, why the hell would he say that he never touched the lamp??? He would have given them an excuse for having touched the lamp knowing they might find prints on it. Poor guy lost his girlfriend and had his life ruined by a couple of jackass detectives. 18 months without bond? He should sue the shit out of them for malicious prosecution.

Oh snap!!! Jim I love your face.

First one destroyed my ears lmao

Samuel Stewart

Part 8 is kind of hidden. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page where it says "Police £

The first two are Denise Richards and Emilia Clarke, right?

I'm so grateful I joined this. It won't be long before Netflix or a larger production comes for you mate. Your talent is unprecedented.

Ikr! I was shocked when they came back not guilty. She did it 100%

That third lady was such an actress, and not a good one.

The last case with that kid and his girlfriend. I am confident he is innocent. And he was held without bail for 18 months. That is disgusting. I could tell from his interrogation that he was being honest because that's exactly how I would act were I accused of a crime I didn't commit.

Good shit jim, where is part 8 though?=

The 3rd one...Worst actress of all time. Of All Time! Thank you Jim

Thanks heaps, Jim. My journey to work just got better

Thank you

Thank you very much from germany

bfkrug
