In college we had to do a study on this show - everyone tuned in because it was psychologically soothing to have the people posing danger to your children be strangers on the internet. This was during the time of “stranger danger” - but statistically if a child is going to be molested or killed, over 90% of the time it will be someone close to them. The “othering” of the dangers to children, and creating a heightened sense of threat outside the home is somehow favorable to the idea that the real threat could be an uncle, pastor, mother, etc, meanwhile the more realistic threat Of being abused within your family hardly gets talked about.

Michael Patterson was in fact a reserve officer who I believe was fired for using police lights in his personal vehicle to impersonate an on-duty police officer. Gotta tell ya Jim, loving your stuff. Big time. Expertly done. I’d turn this into paragraphs, but I can figure out how to do it without sending them one comment at a time. A couple unsophisticated thoughts I’d like to share: first, your series tries to present the info in a frame sympathetic to the subject. I appreciate that you feel strongly about their rights. While I watch however I find myself rooting for the cops every time. I’m glad they have these fancy techniques, underhanded as they are, and want them to get the bad guy. As underhanded as they may be though, when I put myself in the place of the subject, I think I would be acutely aware of each technique, the response desired by the cop, and why. I don’t think I could be tricked into anything. I guess I mean that I think they know they’re being played and are consciously choosing to confess anyway. Were I in that situation — who can really predict the course of human tragedy — I doubt I could be tricked into a confession. I think the desire to confess and move on to punishment is human, and the exact moment an incriminating statement escaped from my lips would be no accident.

It’s crazy how grooming works and what all really goes into it. It’s also crazy that you can be a victim in these situations and not even realize what was actually happening until years later. I remember always having much older guys always approaching me and later telling me “you look so mature for your age” after they found out that I was 14, and STILL being interested in me. They’d always add “I’d say you are AT LEAST 18”. *cringe* If that was the case, why is that x amount of years later people still assume that I’m a teenager? 😉 Thankful that I had overly protective parents who knew when I was lying even a little bit.

There's always the lo-tech, yet failsafe HDMI cord from computer to TV- if you have a laptop. What I highly recommend is a Roku or Chromecast or the like. It’s awesome that you covered some of the To Catch a Predator interrogations. Taking that show off the air was a miscarriage of justice. I’ve never been as shocked as I was when I read some of the full chat transcripts and realized how “cleaned up for tv” some of the chat was. There’s some truly disgusting stuff in those chats.

The last interview I haven't seen, but I have seen most of the interrogations from TCaP. Just crazy that he's so nonchalant about meeting a damn 14 year old! An individual not fit for society. Even IF, and its a big IF, he was only planning on just entertaining a young teen...there's still a huge breakdown in decision making for a 45 year old. Just crazy.

They're not "so called" predators. These guys seek out and groom young children to exploit them sexually. If you don't see the harm in that, then you may need to seek some help.
