My late wife also had negative buoyancy. In high school swim class, when they insisted she had to jump in, she took a very deep breath, jumped. And sat on the bottom until the startled instructor dove in to pull her out! Her 'jellyfish float' position, which is supposed to keep anyone afloat, still left her several inches below the surface. She _could_ swim in the Caribbean sea waters, though! We went on a short vacation once to Bermuda, and the higher salinity in the sea water there made swimming easier for her.

This would actually kill me since I can't swim, and my body density is so high that I can never float.

If he can’t, then she has to dive in to rescue him. Or this could set up him retaliating, so she ends up just as wet.

Ha-ha! Yes! Some unscheduled swimming and wet clothes! Maybe that will teach him not to laugh at a hard-won catch.
