Hi Everyone,

This week's questions:

Question 1: Ray struggles with making chords and scales musical and wants help. Also, whats the deal with Hendrix's double stops and stuff.

Question 2: Josh wanted to know who made the pentatonic scale the norm for solos ion modern music. I don't know! Here is a fun article to read.

Question 3: J.T. had questions about moving through a scale vs jumping, which I talk about in detail on my Melody Making Lessons in Music Theory Monday and after that, CAGED soloing lessons.

Question 4: Dede wants me to make a video kind of like my Rubik's Cube system but for sus2 and add9 chords.

Question 5: Dorothy was wondering why I teach the pentatonic scale as a sort of extended triad with extra notes.

Question 6: Rick had a question about closed position vs 3 note per string

SEAN! I missed your question! How? I don't know! So sorry. I'll get it first thing next week

Scott Paul Johnson

Hi Scott great stuff man. I have a question about caged system soloing. I need a little help/clarification on "moving through" notes and "jumping" I assume your moving through notes not in the chord and ending on notes in the chord but not clear about the concept of jumping.

J.T. Pouland

Hi Scott, I just wanted to say thank you for your awesome help, I’ve learned so much from you so TY!

Sue

Hello Scott, you might be able to answer this. Who introduced the pentatonic scale for solos in modern music? I know most of classic rock from the 70's uses a pentatonic scale, but when did it start becoming the norm?

Josh Whiteside

Hi Scott, I'm struggling with making chords and scales musical. What's the secret? Also, as a side curiosity, I love Hendrix's use of double stops and his thumb over the top technique to use hammer ons and pull-offs. What are your thoughts on this approach? Purists don't like thumb over the top but he made it seem so easy.

D'oh!-Ray-Me

Hi Scott, something I really struggle with is building a full song. I don’t struggle with writing a chord progression, and parts of a song, but I struggle adding drums and bass to it. Can you offer some suggestions on how to begin a song with midi drums, etc. Should I simply make a drum track of kick and snare and work up from there? Thanks for your help.

Sean
