Rubik's cube | 02: C Shape

Hi Everyone,

In this video we talk about the C shape. It's a weird one to morph into Minor, diminished, dominant, etc. which is why you don't see it too often, but it does make a nice movable Dominant shape and a cool movable Major7 shape. Also, the fully diminished shape is nicely movable. Everything else is either really awkward or involves some finger strategy. But the exercise of morphing these shapes is really valuable for understanding how the guitar works and you might find yourself in a situation where one of these shapes is exactly what you're looking for. From here I'll move into the more comfortable and common E and A shapes and end with the G shape.

Rubik's cube | 02: C Shape

Comments

I'm finding the C and G shapes to be the least useful. When I do find reasonable ways of playing them, a lot of them are the same as a D (for example). Is that true or do I just need to practice and learn better ways? I guess most would agree that the D, A and E are the easiest since the E and A barre chords are what we generally know. Would you agree?

I was also looking for this to build my own C Shaped cube. Greatly appreciated if you have time to come back to this. :)

I'm still away from my main computer for the holidays, but I'll be back soon and could probably figure that out for you.

Scott Paul Johnson

Scott can you add the C rubics blank? Thanks. Greg

Gregory Lehman

great video, I feel like some very confusing guitar theory stuff is finally coming into focus, thanks!

Hi Shannon! I do, but I can't always reply to individual questions! It's a lot of work to organize content, record videos, plan releases, calibrate gear, etc. Sometimes I get behind. Sorry if you feel neglected. Was there a specific question you had about this video?

Scott Paul Johnson

I think thats a great idea! Try making up some chord progressions using these shapes and working on those too. Might be more fun!

Scott Paul Johnson

Does he reply to shit around here??

Shannon Hodgkin

Would you recommend jotting down the chords on scratch paper and practice hand position with a metronome?

Armel Chiza

Ur a funny guy. Scotty. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder. I thought some of those chords were cool... I'll have to put one in a song somewhere just to fuck with people. One of the stretchy ones as a transition one time in the song so they have to learn this one chord, just to play the song, that they will never use again...I just ignore them personally, I see that shit in a lot of songs....If I ever become a famous songwriter, of course. I guess I better hurry because, I'm near the end and i just ain't got much time...PS...That's dumb, you cant make a new paragraph in this window.
