May Channel Update
Added 2019-05-25 03:18:08 +0000 UTCHello everyone!
As always, thank you so much for your support. The last time I did an update the channel crossed 100,000 subscribers. About 15,000 subscribers later, I received the silver play button from YouTube. Very cool!

Here's what has been happening at City Beautiful HQ:
1. The video "Why do countries build new capital cities?" was the first I shot with my new camera! I had been using a compact camera before, which is great in some scenarios, but not others. Now I have a proper camera with interchangeable lenses—time to learn how to use it!
2. The video "Are cities like organisms?" was the first with my new set/backdrop! I'll keep improving the decorations, but I'm happy with this as a starting point.
3. The trivia livestreams are a hit and lots of fun. They take more prep, which will be a challenge coming up (see point #6). I think I'm going to switch back to a traditional Q&A format for the next couple of months, but I will definitely do more trivia in the future.
4. This channel is a part of Standard, a sort-of cooperative for thoughtful YouTubers. Standard helps hook me up with sponsors, my editor Eric, and a great community of other creators. Standard just launched Nebula, a new streaming video service. City Beautiful videos are included! The platform costs $5/month to access, and the money goes right to the creators. It's another way to support great channels. If you'd like to check it out, visit: http://watchnebula.com
5. I just returned from a trip to Florida where I filmed a few videos (see below).
6. My wife and I are expecting a new baby next month! I fully intend to continue to post every other week, but if I do miss a video, that's why. I've been trying to prep videos ahead of time to ensure there is no gap.
7. Here's a list of upcoming videos:
- An urban planner reviews LEGO city sets (This is a silly one, but should be fun)
- Something on how to plan for water and wastewater systems (still working on this one)
- Do tourists ruin cities? (I got this suggestion on Twitter, I believe, but I think this should be interesting)
- Where did Disney get his ideas for EPCOT? (Fun to see where Walt got his inspiration)
- What is New Urbanism? (Featuring Celebration, Florida)
8. Have any questions? Leave them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks for your support!
