Madhouse did a phenomenal job with this episode. The action scenes in the manga are generally just a few panels and they have expanded them into some of the best animated sequences I have seen. You make a great point about Fern and her journey, how she took on a huge responsibility and goal trying to become capable of taking care of herself before Heiter passed on. Even Frieren at that point was able to see the problem with that, that the girl still needed an avenue to grow, so she did what Himmel would have done and invited her along. They're both learning about humans and themselves, for their own reasons, yet those reasons mirror each other at times. Frieren experiencing joy through Fern watching the sunset, Fern experiencing joy seeing Frieren excited about her collection of magical junk during the 2nd test.
