Welcome to New Dawn pg. 19.

I was really excited to get to this page, because I really wanted to draw Estella's father. And well... he's not a good man at all :(

Welcome to New Dawn pg. 19.

Man, I wish Stella didn't have to live with that disgusting rat-faced punk of a father.

Mr_TTerevel

You went all-in on the design of the father to make him not just BE repulsive but also look the part. I mean, just look at those comments about the dude. Needless to say you nailed it.

😁👍

Simone Spinozzi

Yeah, talking about how this guy turned out so bad, it would overwhelm everything, the comic is about Stella end Evie eventually, how they saw the city, and what memories they escaped from. I see no reason to make him likeable at any side, I just want to show him only as an obstacle that always makes things worse. Easy and clean. You're right about that most of the artist have trouble with show the difference between hairless, and not hairless creatures and anthros. I'm glad you think I do it right :)

Zummeng

Yep, i confirm there is no need, unless you want to go the anime route of showing how a bad guy became a bad guy. I do like those things, but they do weigh down the story and they are not really necessary. A "classic" example is a comic i'm reading and i just finished volume 15: "PeaceMaker" that's essentially a series of duels between crazy "overpowered" gunslinger and they are all despicable, then as each duel begins the author spends about 2 to 5 chapters per each of the duellists going down their life and what brought them there, until they shoot and usually the fight ends with about 1 shot, aside from the ones where it has to be dragged, due to the backstory. It's... weird, and definitively infodumpy, but it's also charming. It also wastes a lot of pages on people you did not like before and tires to make you understand them before they die right there in (usually) one shot. 🤣 In this case unless you have a *very* good reason to go in detail of why she's still with him, you can avoid it. There's nothing wrong with the classic "bad guy who is also ugly". On a side note: It's usually hard for furry artists to show the difference between a furry character with fur and a furry character without it... mostly because fur is treated like "colored skin" 99.9999% of the time, so kudos for not breaking your style and still managing to show he's bald.

Simone Spinozzi

Yeah, liking something that you "don't like" is kinda difficult :D A lot of my readers said something similar to me. But if you really hate that character, my mission was succesful, and the character fulfills it's "funcion" to be a punchable asshole. (To be honest, making hateable characters is just as much work as making likeable ones. Because in both cases you have think their personality through. )

Zummeng

I don't even know if he had stripes or something, because I imageined him as a bald junky from the start. >.> Maybe he was a tiger, maybe not, you can't tell today.

Zummeng

To tell the truth, I didn't intend to make him a pure Sphinx, he's bald because his fur fell out. I don't know if I can put this info in the comic, or if it's necesarry at all. X) The point is he's ugly :U

Zummeng

He's rotten to the bones

Zummeng

After reading this one, and then your description... it was very hard to hit the like button; not because I don't "like it", but because I don't like HIM. I really felt the emotion being thrown by both characters.

Takkin Faircrest

Is this a completely bald tiger-alcoholic? His appearance and his manners make him absolutely disgusting.

Alexey Belovolsky

Sphynx cats always look mangy, but this guy really went down. And Estella got dragged with him.

Simone Spinozzi

Either she's half-rat on his side, or he's just really, really, REALLY let himself go to rot over the years.

Death of Ink

he looks very rat-like

SwiftKitten

.....I feel so unclean right now.

Death of Ink

Poor stella... (Hugs her through smartphone)
