Author Check-in 3/20 Chapter 8 Progress Notes
Added 2025-03-20 19:02:24 +0000 UTCChapter 7 goes public on the 22nd and chapter 8 is moving along all right. The progress isn't coming as quickly as it did last time, but I've also been struggling with a lot more anxiety the last couple weeks. It kind of just comes and goes.
That said, chapter 8 is almost 5000 words and I might have enough for a demo soon, but I'm not sure. Still, I've gotten over what feels like the first major hump. In chapter 6, MC mentions possibly reading Erebus, which is the majority of chapter 8's beginning consists of. It being a recounting of past events, it was hard not to make it too much like what you've already read. This also is the first time we actually get to see Casey herself in action, so it was difficult to characterize her in a way that gave her a personality without making her insufferable. I feel like a lot of teenage characters just automatically SHOULD be a little insufferable, but that's me. (That's not me dissing on teens. That's me saying that everyone was insufferable as a teenager. And if you think you weren't, then you're probably the biggest offender. I know for a fact that I was a total twat as a teen.)
That said I like Casey quite a bit and I hope you guys do too.
I'm also really excited to get moving on chapter 8 because I get to open up the world a little more and show you guys the magical side of things.

This is exciting! Kudos on the progress. Recently subbed (downside of being poor and wanting to support multiple people means i tend to swap around authors each month, sorry in advance for that ๐ฃ) but I had a little extra and enjoyed chapter 7 and it's been lovely looking back through the patreon. Really enjoyed it.
