Library Illustration (black & white)

I didn't talk about this when I finished the coloured version of this illustration back in December, but I just wasn't that excited about it. I struggled with the colour palette and changed it around a couple of times. But even then... purple and brown tones in combination are just not my thing.
But now that I've been playing with more of a manga style, I figured why not try a black and white version of it, maybe the mood I had in mind could only be achieved without colour. So I tried it, simplified a lot of areas, applied a lot more texture than in the previous version, and I'm super happy with the result. What do you think?
I think I want to try the same thing on a Victorian house that I drew around Halloween back in 2020, and maybe I can salvage it. I had the same problem and couldn't quite get the mood to work.
