Bus Stop - Work in Progress

Hello friends!

How are you doing today?

I haven’t been very enthusiastic about painting recently and I needed a few days to get inspired and relax. If 2020 had gone according to plan, I‘d be in Tokyo right now. The trip was supposed to be a creative reset and I was going to come back with tons of reference photos and ideas.

I do have a list of things I still want to paint but in the current situation, I just feel a bit “meh” about them. It’s a little tougher when all you see is the inside of your apartment for weeks. Buuut I‘ll just keep going, look at photos, paintings and watch movies to get the creative juices flowing.

With this illustration, I’m mainly focused on the palette and lighting. I want to capture an early morning vibe. We’ll see how it turns out when it’s done. I hope you like it so far!

Thank you for sticking with me during this difficult time. 🧡

Thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful comment! That’s exactly the kind of feeling I want to capture. And I’m glad you’ve been reconsidering things as a result of this situation. I’ve also been living a minimal lifestyle for a few years now and it’s so nice to only have the things around that you need. Especially during this time, it becomes evident that there are just a few things that are truly important in our lives.

I’m so happy that you still got to go! 😊 And it’s not like we’ll never get the chance again. We just have to be patient right now.

A lot of travel plans have been sabotaged for sure, including mine for the spring and summer. I am just fortunate to have a job and be in a place where I can comfortably work during this quarantine. Plus it gives me a chance to save up for even bigger trips in the future. In a way, this quarantine has kind of been hard reset for me in terms of simplifying my perspective and getting rid of unnecessary clutter figuratively and literally. Maybe in a way being home can feel like a reset. I feel like this painting of yours along with other ones encapsulates those quiet unseen moments where we simply just "are." Like being to yourself and just having that moment to reflect on everything while being immersed in a peaceful silence. Kind of like the moment when Chihiro and No Face are riding the train. A moment of pure clarity.

Oh, and about your trip, I really feel sorry for you. I guess, I've been the lucky one here, the quarantine began here two days after I came back from there. Granted, I missed some places that I absolutely wanted to see (Digital art museum of Tokyo, that's you I'm talking about!) but I consider myself as very lucky and if you want to, I could share some pictures. I'm thinking about those gorgeous temples and shrines at Nikko.
