First things first: If you’d like a print of this, you can order it until 3 April, 10 AM EST in my store.
This illustration will be part of the rewards for March! I think you’re all aware that I absolutely love Japanese culture and I recently came across toro nagashi, a ceremony in which you float paper lanterns down a river to guide the souls of the departed to the spirit world. It wasn’t the first time I had heard about it, but now I felt inspired to paint my own version of it. As I was thinking what the character could look like, I decided to draw Hope from my project Phantasma. I could easily see something like this happening in the world I’m creating, so it was a beautiful concept to explore.
I’ve also read Tuesdays with Morrie recently, which made me think a lot about life and death. Not in a bad way though, not at all! It’s just a magical book that really makes you appreciate the time you have on this earth with the people that you love. I think I will be reading it again just to remind myself of that.
I hope you like the artwork. Thank you so much for your support. 🧡
