I started working on another illustration for Phantasma - my long-term personal project. I don’t work on it all the time but it’s like an old friend I can always come back to. For me, it just feels nice to be able to jump around between different things. It keeps me motivated and engaged. Right now I still have 3 or 4 illustration ideas on the back burner. I hope I don’t ever run out!
Here’s some stuff that happened recently:
I was interviewed by Bobby Chiu yesterday, which was more than exciting! I‘ll let you know when the interview goes live.
I got green light on my workshop in Seville, Spain! It‘ll be 3 days in January 2020. I can’t wait!
Here’s what I‘ve read and watched recently:
Not too long ago, I told you that I was reading The Lies of Locke Lamora. It took me so long to finish that book, just as it took me forever to read Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson last year. I don’t know.. maybe I‘m just over fantasy? It’s weird to think because I used to love this stuff. The Mistborn trilogy is one of my favourites, but I‘m wondering if I‘d still enjoy it as much if I were reading it now. So many people love The Lies of Locke Lamora and recommended it to me. And there’s nothing wrong with it, it‘s a perfectly good book. But I just didn’t really care about it as much as I‘d hoped. Maybe we just didn’t click or maybe it actually is the fact that I‘ve come to enjoy other things rather than fantasy. Do you ever feel like that? What are your favourite books?
A show on Netflix that I really liked is Russian Doll. After the story really started to develop, I just had to keep watching. And the ending was so perfect, I loved it!
Currently, I‘m watching The Umbrella Academy. I wasn’t going to watch it because I didn’t like the trailer, but everyone on Twitter was talking about how good it is. So I gave it a go. And I’m surprised about how much I enjoy it! The characters are all really interesting and have a depth to them that (of course) a short trailer can’t convey. I also love the cast: Robert Sheehan was amazing in Mistfits and so is he on this show. So yeah, I recommend it!

With the Tairen Soul series I totally get that. And with Court of Thorns and Roses, too. The plot mostly serves the romance. Throne of Glass not so much, which is probably why it's my favourite. ^^

2019-02-27 17:12:02 +0000 UTCHehe, I will be working on Phantasma a lot more in the future! I’m just always afraid that it’s going to be a spoiler. But at some point, I’ll just have to get to those things that have been sitting in my head for so long. I honestly don’t know what it is about me and fantasy right now. It just all feels kind of “meh”. I guess I just need a little distance. But thank you so much for the recommendations!

2019-02-27 17:10:03 +0000 UTCI am chevron devouring the Tairen Soul series. Before that it was A Court of Thorns and Roses, as well as my favourite: Throne of Glass. So good!!! And I'm asked happy to see Phantasma works. 😊 PS: love Robert Sheehan!! Loved him in Misfits, too! Now I am hunting for that Irish series Lice/Hate that he is in. Musst be good. Pretty dark though (which I like. ^^)

2019-02-27 12:21:37 +0000 UTCI wish I know better your taste about books, so I could actually make a good recommendation. Just curious, what do you feel this fantasy lacks of? About my favs... Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell was refreshing, Robin Hobb's books are gorgeus, although a little grimdark to me, Bujold is one of the best story-builders, The Curse of Chalion to start with, and currently I'm enjoying a lot The Memoirs of Lady Trent. BTW, I hope someday we could see something bigger of Phantasma (more characters, more story, more... all!), by far are my favourite illustrations.
