A new tarot card! It’s been a while. So, this is the Queen of Wands. The key words were:
I hope all of that comes across. One thing I‘m trying to do is to bring more diversity into my artwork. I‘m definitely guilty of defaulting to white characters and I’m making a conscious effort to break that pattern. But at the same time, this makes me a bit nervous because I want to do it justice. For this illustration, I didn’t just want to draw a woman with Caucasian features and slap a dark skin colour on her.
I‘ve always found it rather easy to draw women in a way that is respectful and that gives them agency and personality (vs. them being objectified), because I am a woman. Drawing people of colour however, is something that is more challenging to me, because I don’t have any first-hand experience. The last thing I want is to come across as being offensive when I‘m actually trying the opposite. Even finding the right words for all of this seems difficult . But I hope you get me.
Something completely unrelated: Something weird happened when I saved the .psd file and created a jpeg. The image turned pretty green. The .psd file was still more red-ish though. I was definitely in RGB mode. Anyone know what’s up with that? I‘ve never observed such a drastic colour shift when saving an image for the web.
What else can I say? Oh, yes! I finally got some help packing orders and handling other things that are taking up more and more of my time. So thanks to my awesome, brand new assistant, I‘ll have more time for art in the future! I‘m hoping this is going to improve my productivity in the long run. So I‘m excited! I‘ll be working up a new t-shirt design tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your support! I couldn’t so all this without you. 💛
