Eight of Wands - Sketch

Long time no art. I have been so frustrated lately with my work being posted publicly. So it's good to get back to making tarot cards and setting aside my issues for now.

I hope you guys have spent a few wonderful holidays with your families and loved ones. :]

Honestly, I procrastinated on this card for a while, because in its meaning, it is about taking quick action, coming to a conclusion and receiving news. Now, with these phrases, I knew that I wanted (had to) draw something dynamic, which is one of my artistic weaknesses. I generally enjoy quiet, contemplative scenes and still poses. But there was no way to get away with that in an illustration that it supposed to represent quick action. Also, I hesitated to include the image of the wave (because the wands are the fire suit), even though I thought it was a great metaphor for dynamism, force and movement.

In the end, I just decided to bite the bullet and I came up with the drawing you see above. I think it's actually not too bad. The peregrin falcon is both a symbol for speed as well as being a messenger, so I thought it added a nice touch. With the character, I wanted to draw a girl with short hair, because I rarely do. The rest came out of the drawing process quite naturally. I added flowing fabric to make it more dynamic and the wands ended up being this sort of bridge.
