Hello you lovely bunch of people! :)
I'm so excited to welcome all the new members to my small, cozy Patreon community. And a big shoutout to those who have been around for months or even a year. You guys are truly amazing and thanks to you I can pursue the kind of work that I enjoy. <3 Thank you. Seriously.
Before I get into the drawing, I'm just going to give our new members a quick tour.
Rewards are sent out around the 2nd or 3rd of each month, right after the payments. I'll be sending you a direct messages that includes a download link. Every month, I finish 1 or sometimes 2 digital illustrations that are included in the rewards. I hope to do more next year though - especially more tarot cards.
The 10% discount code is posted to the Patreon feed and stays valid until I post the next one.
Mainly, I post stuff on here is related to my tarot illustrations as well as updates that concern Patreon or general life events. If you'd like to see more regular updates, Instagram and Twitter are the places to go (@djamilaknopf on both). To watch my process videos as supplementary material to the illustrations, you can visit my channel. :)
Noooow, about the Seven of Wands!
I'm pretty excited about the sketch. It turned out to be very close to what I had envisioned. The card represents aggression, defiance and conviction. So I wanted to show a strong character who looks capable of taking matters into their own hands.
Key phrases are:
Although I generally believe in resolving conflicts peacefully, I took "fighting for what's important" quite literally here. The warrior and her knife are my way of depicting "aggression, defiance and conviction". Also, she's inspired by Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn as well as Merida from Brave. I'm planning on making her a redhead!
The higher the number of wands, the harder it gets to keep the number clearly visible. In this case, it was more important to me to make the branches seem natural than to draw exactly seven. Also, I chose maple leaves (Yes, maple. My bf's first comment was "Weed!" :D) had the sharp and spiky quality that I was looking for to complement the theme of the illustration.
That's pretty much it for now. I hope you like it! :]
Have a great week. <3
