I tend to think most of the action shonens that are regurgitated on our screens are boring and that this a breath of fresh air for popular anime/manga. Solo Levelling did nothing to impress me that 100's haven't already done. In this, the characters are front and centre, their journey far more personal than becoming "the best" and it doesn't trauma dump you at every turn. It slowly and naturally develops emotional stories in the present that help you connect with the characters you're journeying with rather than spamming it all into flashbacks. Sure they're there, but they're primarily context to the present rather than a presentation of why you should care. This, Vinland S2 and Pluto were some of the best animes of last year imo
