We know some of you guys don’t use Facebook or Instagram so we wanted to make sure you were kept up to date with our posts so here’s today’s…..!
Storytime….the sun and I have always had a powerful relationship. #ad
At 26 I was diagnosed with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but no amount of lightbox therapy could pull me out of the dark hole I fell into every autumn.
Naturally a vivacious person - my smile faded and my soul withered away.
Exercise helped but nothing cut the mustard like the return of longer days & summer sunshine….
I managed my depressive spells best I could until our final leap into Greek liveaboard life 13 years later - this gave me ‘the other half of my life back’.
But it wasn’t until my dear mum was treated for skin cancer that I became aware of the suns dangers….and the suffering skin cancer inflicts on those it touches.
My best friend for physical & mental relief emerged as a silent enemy….that’s when I started to take skin protection more seriously.
Initially I thought it was ‘too late’ to reverse my years of bathing in any glimmer of UK sunshine I could find…thankfully our bodies can (and do) repair the DNA damage caused by UV radiation to a certain extent…but it is repeated damage and exposure that can lead to irreparable damage.
So while using photoprotection will not reverse damage, it will prevent further damage (which is cummilative) so it is NEVER too late to start taking better care of yourself.
Alot of people think we become Vit D deficient when using sunscreen - this is NOT the case at all.
My mood, health & happiness have all been drastically improved since we took to a life in the med….but also has our level of respect for the suns incredible life-giving, and life-threatening POWER ❤️☀️🫶🏼
Have you been affected by SAD or know someone who is? Do you worry about Vit D absorption?
