2025-05-08 23:03:00 +0000 UTCAs the old wisecrack puts it, one proof of insanity is the serial repetition of identical actions with an expectation that the outcome will be different. These inevitable and eminently predictable "tragedies" will keep coming until shows are either banned or substantially reformed to mandate and enforce minimum altitudes to allow for recovery and minimum safe separation for deconfliction. The current state of airshows means indefensible and continuing human carnage. But the same common sense would apply to phone use while driving, wouldn't it, and I'm sure not holding my breath for that one. RIP Jane Wicker, and so very many others.

You are very right, just because there's bans for specific dangerous practices, doesn't mean that the whole topic is necessarily banned. That is a great point against those inevitable people who always argue against bans. Of course, only until something that affects *them* negatively is getting banned, then it's great. I do totally see where you're coming from that it's not a tragedy when it's expected and inevitable. I guess it puts it into an area where it's hard to phrase it in a different way. In reality when it's something like this, the blunt truth is "you signed up for it", but the problem is that's not what people generally like to hear.
