In preparation for my first visit to Tokyo, I downloaded an English version of the map. The first time I saw an image, it looked like nothing but spaghetti to me! Then I sat down and really pored over it. It began to make perfect sense! Easier than my own city's subway map, which is about a fifth the size. It's alpha-numeric! You can't go wrong, and don't really even need to deal with names.
A trip from Higashi-Shinjuku to Sensoji Temple means going from E2 -> E9, transfer, and then G15 -> G19. Simple as. Total time: 21 min. (Got my map right here.) Brilliant design!

Just using the colours seems to work, J-B. I try to stay away from Tokyo! :-D

With the kanji on top of that, that becomes difficult. Is the Yamanote line the mauve one? I don't even recognise the kanji.
