I heard of that.. it was part of the Barbenheimer double feature, right?

That leather case is magnificent. You can hardly find anything in genuine leather any more, much less that grade of leather. Excellent craftsmanship. As to the medal, I found its image online. I tracked it down a bit more, and came up with this. But perhaps this 1940 medal could have been issued in '45 for service at an earlier time. That would not be unusual. "2600th National Anniversary Commemorative Medal 1940. The 2600th anniversary of the foundation of the Japanese Empire by Jimmu Tenno in 600 B.C. was celebrated in November 1940. The medal was instituted by Imperial Edict No. 488 of July 27, 1940, to be awarded to those summoned to the 1940 National Anniversary Day Festival, to those invited to the 2600th anniversary ceremonies, and to those connected with official duties and important affairs of the anniversary." Also: "This medal was conferred upon individuals in recognition of their involvement in the 2600th anniversary celebrations of the establishment of the Japanese Empire in 600 BC. The reverse features Japanese characters, which translate to '2600th Year of the Imperial Era Celebration Commemorative Medal' and 'Showa 15 [1940]' ". The medal you showed in the video is in excellent condition. The ribbon is clean, and the silk still shines. It's well preserved.

I recently watched the movie Oppenheimer. It has rekindled my interest in Japan and WW2. These artifacts of history sure are fascinating.
