I've been following farmers clearing their waterways that supply their fields. The intake may be several kilometres up stream, made of the concrete
troughs. The source can be clogged with sediment, gravel and boulders
from spring runoff & rainstorms. Farmers walk the length of their waterway
cleaning out leaves, branches & soil to keep the fields supplied with water. The creeks and rivers seem manicured and controlled for good reason for
protection from spring & storm runoff and growing food.
