Western kids would find it pretty tough, Ken. Long school days, homework during the holidays (and school activities) and cleaning the school themselves....

So, as a test of my understanding of Japanese culture, I will hazard to assume that firstly, this is a technique that goes back centuries, presumably well before the invention of the Swiffer. And secondly, the answer to the question "why still?" wouId probably be something like "because that's the way it's always been done." Is that close?
