This post will be a little boring because I'll just talk about the process on how to make a karaoke. If you have no interest on that, all you need to know is that the current project for the team is making a "Final Subbed Version" of the Jewelpet Movie we released first thing this year. This version will include karaokes, effects and some stuff that we decided was too time-consuming for the previous release. Chances are we may change some lines too!
Now, back to the karaoke.
To do it, we will use Aegisub's karaoke function. If you check on the screen, is the right-most icon with the tiny music note and microphone under the sound window.
First of all, we do a "broad" separation, that means that we pick up the single words that form each line (Aegisub separate them automatically based on "keyboard spaces"), adding breaks if needed (that means you add another separation in between two words, for example if there is a noticeably long break between two spoken words).
Then we separate each syllable of the word, as shown in the screenshot. We click the "ok" green mark in the left of the words (it will be clickable when you separate on syllables) and that will make all the {\kXX} things appear.
Then we get to the fun part. See those yellow dotted lines and the syllables on top of the sound waves in the sound screen? We can left-click and grab those, and our goal is to listen to every single of those separations and drag them around until the only sound you can hear is the one related to the syllable. For example, if we hear "haj-" we need to drag it to the left until we only hear "ha". I am quite the perfectionist, so this process take a long time and a lot of effort. But the result is worth it!
After all the syllables are done, we test the line watching the video to see if the karaoke is accurate (that is why there is white and red words in screen, the red ones are not-yet "sang" syllables) and move on.
This was a little boring but I have been asked plenty of times how to do karaoke and since I don't think a full tutorial is required, this should do.
Perhaps in the future I'll make another sneak peek talking about the karaoke effects, although I don't know much about those myself so I may pass on it. We will see.
Hope you guys are looking forward to this!
