Family Has LOW Priority in Japan

Comments

That GIANT FACE startles people fairly regularly. :-D Yes, dudes like Singapore dude are not uncommon. Aspire to be different and have free thinking.. but cant go through with it in the end because of societal pressures. Life in the hive.

Whoa! Got a bit startled by the big dudes GIANT FACE that momentarily occupied a quarter of the video frame! But what an interesting video. Throughout my life I've pondered about the ethicality of lying, and this video brings forth an interesting perspective on this. I came to the conclusion years ago that lying is not necessarily always a bad thing, as it can help alleviate pain and suffering in certain situations. But what if the society you lived in required you to prioritize things differently than how the individual would want to? For example, if lying was the only way one would be able to be present at their family member's final moments before death. Wouldn't lying become the most ethical thing to do at that moment? Although it's good to keep in mind that what's viewed as ethical differs depending on who you ask. I remember you talking about this (probably) same person who moved to Singapore, about how you people spoke about the importance of family but then he made this "illogical" decision to leave his family in order to work in a different country despite agreeing that his presence in their childrens' lives would be (more) important. I don't think this man was acting two-faced, when he agreed with your perspective. I think it's just the Japanese culture doesn't really approve of differing views or change. I suppose Japanese work culture also plays a big role here. You mentioned even in this video, how employees are meant to do what their superior says, so I don't think this man had much of a choice. All of these cultural differences are fascinating to me. What we would see as outrageous is normal somewhere else and vice versa. Someone whose name I can't remember at the moment described our world in an interesting analogy. According to them, our world is like a book, but by staying home we will only ever read one page. Sad to hear that young bloke couldn't go to Canada because of one football coach. On the plus side, he will have more opportunities in the future, if he is still willing to go abroad. I hope he won't give up, so that he'll be able to add another page to his book!

Thanks Ed, I was hunting for those.... the longer shoot is marvellous! In a world of man made progress and setback. The green things keep popping back up without our help. Disregard my first convoluted comment.
