Japan's 99% Conviction Rate Myths

Yes, the system definitely needs improvement.. change is slow here...

I'm actually really surprised the authorities are allowed to pressure the detainees into giving a possibly false testimony. That's really dangerous, and it's especially surprising, when considering how fearful they are of making mistakes! Thankfully, getting into a bad dealing with the police is very unlikely - based on what I have learned from your videos - as long as you follow the law and cultural norms. Unfortunately I still think that some people just can't help themselves, and due to mental illness or something else, might get coerced into giving a false admittance to a crime they never committed. Which would lead to a discussion about mental health, but I'm sure we all know how that is in Japan. Clearly something has to change in there, because their current way of dealing with some things is not sustainable, as it may cause actual death. I realize of course, that Japan should only change according to Japanese peoples' beliefs and that nobody else should intervene. But what would have to change in Japan and the Japanese people for them to start to demand and make changes? Are politicians the ones who should change? Would the bureaucracy have to be different, or should there be less of it? Should Japanese people start thinking about things differently (discuss difficult matters, show compassion etc.)? Would their systems need to change first, before people behave differently (eg. their school system)? Would they have to take mental health more seriously? Could there be a Japanese way to make important changes (for example, give Japanese people an image that everyone helps the mentally ill)? All the things I just listed and more (less?)? Would love to hear what you think about this. It is a pretty wide topic, and I could probably hypothesize this for hours, even if I only have shallow knowledge. Great to see the comments up on YouTube again! Keep doing you, but remember to take breaks too! -zcly
