Hey there! I'm actually sitting in my studio in Barcelona right now. It's definitely darker than my studio in Madrid, but it's so much quieter, which I really appreciate. Honestly, I like them both for different reasons. The only downside to my Barcelona setup is that my flat is a bit smaller and I have to share my studio with the kitchen. So, I'm actually filming this interview in the dark to give it a bit of a mysterious vibe and so you can't see the mess in my kitchen!
Let's see, what do you want to know?
1. The creation of Jezzabel Avery.
That's a pretty interesting story. It was really magical. Imagine, it was a stormy night at the end of the summer, and I was home alone having an existential crisis. I wanted to work on comic books, but I needed a first project. Then a popular publishing company in my country proposed that I create some pages for an erotic comic magazine. At first, I wasn't sure about it, but I had some funny ideas. Unfortunately, none of them convinced me, and time was passing by, and I still had nothing.
But that magic and terrifying stormy night, suddenly, between the thunderstorms, an image of a woman appeared in my mind. She was laughing wickedly. Oh my! I could see her behind the steering wheel. Her long black hair was blowing in the wind. I was shocked by her impressive presence, and she told me her name, and I knew she had chosen me.
Sometimes the muses whisper softly, and sometimes they shout and shake you. I'm so grateful that Jezzabel appeared so suddenly in my life, even though she has been a very insubordinate character.
2. What genres do you want to do and/or have considered doing despite the pirate/historical ones? Do science fiction or horror or detective or any other genres hold any appeal for you?
Oh, that's a good question! Well, I have to admit that I've always had a soft spot for paranormal and crime genres. I find them fascinating and I would love to explore those genres in my work. Doing something about ghosts and CSI would be great. However, I must say that my sense of humor is better suited for historical and adventure stories. Yeah, that's my top choice.
3. The new project.
I'm really excited about my new comic project! It's a loose interpretation of Dumas' Three Musketeers, but with a funny and sexy twist. One of the main differences, but not the only one, is that I've made D'Artagnan a woman. She's going to have some wild adventures as she meets and interacts with the famous musketeers: Porthos, Aramis, and Athos. Of course, there will also be some drama and conflict, like when she has an unpleasant encounter with Rochefort. Overall, I think it's going to be a really fun and entertaining story that readers will love. I hope so. I'm doing my best :)
That's all for now. I look forward to your questions next month.
