Added 2021-01-11 21:19:34 +0000 UTCThe music set-up isn't quite as ergonomic as I first thought; not unless I have two chairs anyway. But it is indeed capable of making noises and I'm learning the new workflow. It IS better, at least.
The drums are copyrighted, mp3 quality backing tracks, ripped from YouTube. I decided I can't live with metronomes any longer, they just are awful. So I've made a bunch of track templates in REAPER that load up various real drum loops as inspiration for playing less like a robot, and what rhythms to try later on after the melody's been composed.
Also it's handy having a crap mic always plugged in just to hum melodies that come to mind immediately, rather than find a virtual instrument and learn to play it before forgetting what it was you were humming.
