Theory to make camera pans in 2D animation more convincing without 3DCG

I haven't tried this specific idea just yet, but I did use a prototype in parts of Foxy Gets Hooked. In that the amount of distortion did not adjust, so it looked somewhat 3 dimensional, but more like a piece of paper bent in the middle like a cylinder. Here, the idea is that the distortion changes during the pan so that it's attempting to keep the horizontal lines straight at all times.
