You may have noticed my obsession of trying to implement the unique anamorphic look in my animations. And I'm slowly beginning to see the science behind its strange and wonderful look. Here's my most recent attempt at simulating the anamorphic barrel distortion, breathing, and bokeh (with a rather wide angle lens and wide apeture).
Of course, I much prefer clarity over this craze of annoying shallow focus, but this look would be beautiful when used sparingly for close ups or the odd medium shot.
The bokeh shape itself was made with a Copic marker, blobbed onto some paper, and then inverted in Photoshop with some slight RGB split. I also like the idea of animating lens flares by hand with abstract spirals done with oil paints or chalk one day, but I'm trying to repress the lensflare obsession.
