Volume 1 Chapter 46: Mary's Defeat

Mary and Yukimi now both have submitted their answers.

Kiyohei believes in Mary because she worked hard for years to get into this school, even though the probability question is a bit challenging. She should be able to solve it.

Moreover, besides expectations, there are other ways to think about it. As long as Mary takes a moment to think, she should choose one of the four answers.

As for Yukimi, Kiyohei is not very familiar with her, but she looks like someone who has read a lot of books. This problem probably won't be too difficult for her either.

In other words, it all comes down to luck in the end.

After confirming the content written by both of them, Mikura turned the papers over and placed them on her side, ready to start the betting.

"The first round is... lower."

"The second round is... higher."

"The third round is... lower."

One probability has already emerged. Mikura has seen the order of both of their answers. Since she hasn't stopped rolling the dice, it means neither of them wrote this arrangement.

Mary let out a sigh of relief and took out a thermos cup from her bag, drinking some water, perhaps trying to stay calm.

Her water cup has a cartoon spotted pattern, and it looks like it's been used for a long time, with many white marks on it.

"You even brought a water cup." Yukimi didn't miss the chance to tease Mary. "You've had this cup for a long time, right? You dare to gamble with a million yen when you can't even bear to replace your cup?"

"Can't I be sentimental!?" Mary retorted, unwilling to show weakness, and glanced at Kiyohei, as if she was embarrassed for him to see her rustic side, and quickly put the cup away.

"This isn't the time to be concerned about that!"

Kiyohei looked at her as if she were an unruly child. "You are gambling now, so focus."

"Yes..."

Mary smiled apologetically and turned her gaze to Mikura, watching her roll the dice seriously.

Although that's what she said, she couldn't change the outcome of the dice. In the end, she could only watch dryly.

Mikura seemed accustomed to being the dealer. Her dice-rolling movements were very regular, and the dice almost always landed in the same spot.

After six rounds, Mary was still waiting for Mikura to make the eighth roll, but at this moment, Mikura stopped.

"The game is over. It’s Togakushi-san's victory." She flipped Yukimi's card over, which read "DDU," meaning "lower, lower, upper."

"Huh?"

Both Yukimi and Mary were taken aback.

Is it over just like that?

Mary hasn't reacted yet.

She lost, and her one million yen just went down the drain like this? How could this happen...

"According to the previous rules, ownership of the casino belongs to Yukimi. Mary, you owe me 250,000 yen."

Sachiko Juraku looked at Yukimi, who seemed to be in shock, her pupils contracting, her face filled with surprise as she stared at the card on the table that read "DDU."

"What's wrong, Yukimi? You won, be happy!" Sachiko smiled, "What's wrong, do you have any questions?"

"No...!" Yukimi, as if waking from a dream, quickly shook her head, her tone still uncertain, "I can continue to use this room, right?"

"Yes, you've won and cleared your debt with the student council. But remember, if you fall behind on the venue fees next month, we'll be back."

Sachiko approached Yukimi, her expression dark, with a hint of threat in her tone. "You won't fall behind on the venue fees again, will you?"

"I won't!" Yukimi seemed to have finally realized that she had held onto the casino, and her face suddenly brightened as she cheered, "Great, I won! I don't have to pay the student council venue fees anymore!"

In contrast to the cheers and excitement seen by Yukimi Togakushi, on the other side, Mary had a terribly unpleasant expression.

"Mary..." More concerned about losing her 500,000 yen than her own condition, Tsuzura anxiously asked Mary, "Are you okay?"

"...I'm fine." Mary shook her head and stood up, then turned to Sachiko with a plea in her voice, "Sachiko-senpai, can you give me another chance?"

Sachiko tilted her head curiously, "What? Do you still have more money?"

Mary fell silent and slowly shook her head.

"If you don't have money, don't think about gambling. It's better for you that way," Sachiko seemed bored and yawned lightly, reminding her, "By the way, you owe me 250,000 yen. Remember to send it to my office tomorrow."

"Tomorrow!?" Tsuzura exclaimed in surprise, "Isn't that too soon?"

"Who told you there wasn't a deadline for paying back one debt before? I just had to choose a time in which I’m not busy, which is tomorrow," Sachiko leaped lightly from her desk and, holding the iron chain in her hand, prepared to pull Mikura away.

"Since the show's over; I'm going to leave too..."

Runa stretched lazily, turned to Kiyohei with a smile, and said, "By the way, if you still have some of those tasty snacks, you can find me in the Student Council lounge!"

Runa still couldn't forget the taste of those potato chips.

As everyone was about to leave, Kiyohei also prepared to leave.

"Wait, don't go yet!"

Mary suddenly yelled, attracting everyone's attention.

She left the gambling table and rushed towards Kiyohei, her tone urgent, "Kiyohei, lend me some money. I can win it back! I'm sure I can win the next round!"

Kiyohei didn't find the fact that Mary wanted to borrow money from him to be strange at all.

Right now, she was completely in the mindset of a gambler—thinking that she lost this game only because of bad luck and that if she played again, she could definitely turn the tables. She was willing to go all-in and didn't care about the cost...

Mary, pulling Kiyohei's hand, continued to plead, "No matter how much I win, I'll give it all to you! Just lend me a million!"

Kiyohei sighed softly and pulled Mary away.

"I understand what you're thinking. You believe you lost this time because of a rare event, and you're sure you can win next time. But have you ever thought about what you'll do if another rare event occurs? How will you repay this large sum of money?"

She owed the Student Council 250,000 yen, and Kiyohei could help her with that, but he had no intention of lending her money for gambling.

He hoped that Mary would calm down and taste the bitterness of this failure.

However, Mary seemed to have a different idea.

Seeing that Kiyohei wouldn't lend her money, everyone else was ready to leave. In her desperation, Mary rushed directly towards Kiyohei and pressed her entire body weight onto him.

Kiyohei wasn't prepared and found himself pinned under Mary.

Luckily, the room had a soft soundproof carpet, so he wasn't hurt.

Kiyohei felt somewhat annoyed. What was Mary doing? Even if he didn't lend her money, she couldn't just assault him...

Kiyohei raised his head and saw a pure and cute face occupying his entire field of vision. Mary was in a very seductive posture, bending down and pressing against him with a desperate look in her eyes.

Feeling the softness pressed against him, Kiyohei didn't waver at all. He was about to scold Mary loudly when he saw her boldly approach his ear in front of everyone.

"That Sado girl cheated. Give me one more chance, and I can win!"

Mary urgently whispered in Kiyohei's ear.
