Kakegurui: Ten Consecutive Guaranteed Hits

Volume 1 Chapter 1: Truck-kun Struck Again!

Kiyohei Ayanokoji is a world transmigrator.

In his previous life, his experiences were similar to those of most people. He went through the busy and repetitive process of going to school and taking exams, all in order to find a decent job and achieve financial independence.

Just as he had graduated from graduate school and landed a job at a fairly good company, thinking that he had escaped the hardships and would no longer have to endure the whims of that bastard of a supervisor, he felt a moment of joy and drank a little too much with his new colleagues.

And that's when the unexpected happened.

His mind became blurry, and he didn't know what had happened. All he knew was that while he was on his way home, he was hit by a muddy truck crossing the road and was sent flying several meters, only to meet his end then and there.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself lying in a hospital bed.

He initially thought that he hadn't died but had been taken to the hospital by a kind-hearted person.

However, before long, he realized that he seemed to have arrived in a different world, having transmigrated into the body of a ten-year-old boy named "Kiyohei Ayanokoji."

There were no fragments of memories whatsoever. The boy he had transmigrated into had a completely blank mind, as if the present him was the true owner.

He only came to know the name "Kiyohei Ayanokoji" after seeing the nameplate on the hospital bed.

He couldn't believe that he had actually transmigrated... Looking at his shrunken body, he put on a bewildered expression to hide his shock, pretending to be an amnesiac.

Before long, he received a call from the hospital, and his family in this world—his father, Atsuomi Ayanokōji, and his older brother, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji—rushed to the hospital.

Both of them were astonished by Kiyohei Ayanokoji's awakening. The surprise on their faces lingered, as if the fact that this child had woken up was a remarkable miracle.

Atsuomi Ayanokōji sat by the bedside after hearing about Kiyohei's current condition from the doctor and asked him some questions.

Kiyohei had only a vague understanding of the Japanese language and had no idea what the man was saying, so he simply shook his head in response to all the questions.

Having encountered many amnesiac patients during his previous life while following his supervisor, Kiyohei tried his best to imitate their postures, pretending to be a person suffering from amnesia.

Atsuomi asked several questions but received no response. After a moment of silence, he accepted the diagnosis from the hospital doctor.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, who was beside them, didn't suspect anything about his amnesia. He clenched his fist and remained silent.

It was later that Kiyohei learned that it wasn't because of his flawless acting but rather because the hospital's test results had already indicated—

His brain had suffered a severe impact, and his hippocampus was significantly damaged. There was a 90% chance that he would become a vegetable, never to wake up again.

Before he regained consciousness, he had already spent ten days in this hospital room. His two family members had already prepared themselves for the fact that he would never wake up again.

Although they felt disappointed by Kiyohei apparent unfamiliarity, their joy at seeing him wake up outweighed their sadness. They calmly accepted his amnesia.

Compared to spending a lifetime lying in a hospital bed, retrograde amnesia was considered a good outcome.

In addition to his brain, Kiyohei's body also had injuries of varying degrees. The pain throughout his body made him wonder silently if the injuries he sustained from the muddy truck had also been carried over here.

After inquiring with the doctor and confirming that Kiyohei injuries would heal, his father finally felt relieved.

It seemed like his father had an urgent matter to attend to, as they didn't stay long and forcibly dragged Kiyotaka Ayanokōji away from the hospital, leaving Kiyohei behind to receive treatment from the doctors.

Despite his cheap old man's apparent neglect, he didn't leave Kiyohei completely unattended. Before leaving, he paid a hefty sum as treatment fees to the hospital.

He instructed the hospital to provide him with the highest quality of medication and assigned him to a quiet private room. Every day, dedicated doctors would examine his body, ensuring a speedy recovery.

Everything was going well, but...

During his time at the hospital, aside from pressing the call button to get assistance with his physiological needs, most of his time was spent alone, gazing blankly at the white ceiling. It made Kiyohei feel incredibly lonely.

To transmigrate and end up with such fatal injuries, being forced to lie in a hospital bed—it truly was an ordeal...

After a few days of lying in bed, unable to do anything but contemplate, Kiyohei reluctantly accepted his current identity.

Since he was here, he had to make the best of it. There was no going back to the past. Although he felt some regret for the offer he had just received, who knows, this new world might present even more opportunities.

Perhaps... he could become a second-generation rich kid in this lifetime.

He comforted himself with such thoughts.

According to the doctor's analysis, if things went well, he could be discharged from the hospital in about a month. This gave Kiyohei some hope.

While lying in bed, besides envisioning his future, he began analyzing the family situation of this body.

His father, Atsuomi Ayanokōji, was a serious middle-aged man of around forty, who always wore glasses. He hid his emotions behind those glasses, making it difficult to guess his thoughts.

Atsuomi rarely visited the hospital and only asked the attending doctor about his injuries, then hurriedly left without even sparing him a glance.

This made Kiyohei speculate if their relationship was distant and cold.

In contrast to Atsuomi's indifference, his older brother, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, often came to visit him.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji was one year older than him. When in the presence of their father and the doctors, he would keep his head down and remain silent in a corner, almost like an introverted child.

When he first came alone to Kiyohei hospital room, he finally lifted his head—his expression icy and his gaze frosty as he looked at Kiyohei.

His eyes were sharp and piercing, unlike those of someone his age. The occasional gleam in his eyes resembled a sharp sword, sending chills down one's spine.

Startled by those eyes, Kiyohei panicked, thinking that the person had discovered something strange about him. He quickly pretended to be tired, closing his eyes, feeling a wave of anxiety.

‘What's wrong with this guy? Why is he looking at me like that!? Could he have figured out that something's off about me?’

‘Or perhaps he is the true culprit who pushed me into this hospital bed and now plans to attack me after seeing that I've regained consciousness!?’

Kiyohei's mind filled with various speculations, growing increasingly nervous upon hearing Kiyotaka Ayanokōji's footsteps approaching him.

However, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji didn't do anything.

He lowered his head, sat on the stool beside Kiyotaka's bed, and began speaking softly to himself.

Unfortunately, Kiyohei's proficiency in Japanese from his past life was not great. He only knew some common phrases like "it's not good," "faster," "I'm leaving," "more," "impressive," and couldn't understand what he was saying at all.

He could only vaguely sense that Kiyotaka Ayanokōji was full of self-blame and seemed to be apologizing, repeatedly uttering phrases like "I'm sorry."

Kiyohei wanted to respond but couldn't communicate in Japanese or English, so he had no choice but to act like a perfect amnesiac patient and silently listen to him.

Every time Kiyotaka Ayanokōji came, it was the same. Sometimes when he seemed tired, he would even lie down by the bedside and sleep, as if having a terrible nightmare, his shoulders trembling. It was at these moments that Kiyotaka Ayanokōji would sob like a child.

After a few visits from Kiyotaka, Kiyohei breathed a sigh of relief and finally let go of his vigilance.

Looking into his eyes, he almost thought that he was like Conan, a high school student who had taken the Black Organization's drug to shrink in size.

It was precisely because of Kiyohei amnesiac appearance that no one held any suspicion towards him, which allowed him to gradually notice some unusual things.

Despite being father and son, this father frequently used commanding language towards Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, as if giving orders to a subordinate to do various tasks.

And his brother would obediently comply, bowing his head and silently carrying out Atsuomi instructions without a single complaint.

Perhaps due to the painful memories of being oppressed by a mentor in his past life, Kiyohei was acutely sensitive to hierarchical relationships. The interaction between these two didn't seem like that of a father and son but rather like a hierarchical relationship with evident class differences.

Furthermore... Whether it was an illusion or not, sometimes Kiyohei could sense a deep resentment towards their father in his brother's eyes, as if he was looking at an enemy.

It suddenly dawned on Kiyohei that Kiyotaka's icy gaze wasn't directed at him, but instead, it’s directed at their father.

The relationship between Kiyotaka Ayanokōji and Atsuomi Ayanokōji, the father and son, is intriguing... It seems that my family after reincarnation is not that simple.

But there is one thing to be grateful for.

At least for him, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji is not the kind of person who pretends to be friendly on the surface but secretly wishes to kill the other person. He is a truly reliable older brother.

He feels a deep sense of self-blame for the fact that Kiyohei is lying in a hospital bed.
