as someone whos grown up with the iconic movies and only just recently binged the show, its so fascinating watching someone watch it backwards. for instance i thought "wow they made sam reid's lestat look like louis?" but for you guys its the opposite lol! i think yall should definitely watch "queen of the damned" before season 3 because i highly doubt S3 will be anything like the movie, i'd be shocked if they didnt change the majority of it cause the movie doesnt have the best reputation among fans

(This was absolutely a fun watch! Thanks guys! I'm so grateful you waited until post-season 2 - I think it really allowed for an amazing reaction, especially S2 E7. 💖)

Loved the reaction! 🫶🏽🙇🏽♀️🫶🏽
Being from New Orleans, of course I have read the written material this movie is based on by Anne Rice. I’ve loved this film since the moment I first saw it. I think that Tom Cruise especially does a great job as Lestat. He delivers a wonderful performance. With that being said, I think the television series is SPECTACULAR. In a tv series, you have time to develop a story and give more attention to detail even more so than a film. I think the backdrop of the city wasn’t AS developed in the film which is fine considering it’s a movie. The show gives new interpretations to some of the characters like Louis for example. Louis being a creole black man adds more life and also compliments how important New Orleans is as a backdrop to this story. Making him a creole black man compliments the cultural significance of the city in this story and also compliments the change of the period. Since New Orleans plays such a role in the story between Louis and Lestat, I believe these changes fuel the story. In New Orleans, when people think of creole, we think of Louis as he is looks in the series and not the film although the time period is different in the film (explaining why original Louis can even be considered creole). In the time period in the book and film, creole meant anyone that was born in “Louisiana” opposed to Europe or elsewhere. That hasn’t been the case for a long long long time because of the complex history of South Louisiana, New Orleans especially. Jacob Andersons’ Louis represents and looks like the realities of my culture (creole) as an ethnic group and culture as it’s been known for a long time in, specifically New Orleans. The film disregards accents which is fine. I think Tom does a great job regardless but Sam Reid accent work brings Lestat to life. The same can be said with Jacob Anderson and his portrayal of Louis. Although no one outside of the city can master a New Orleans accent, Jacob Anderson does a well enough job and his attempt is worth the praise.
The performances in the film is all around good. I just think the series is everything and more..and the perfect portrayals of Anne Rice characters even with the changes made.

This was one of my favourite movies growing up. I read the books after watching this movie first. It took me a minute to get used to the show at first because this version was the version I had in my head and the show changed a lot, but I do love the show now and cannot wait for season 3 too!

I didn't know that about Brad Pitt! If he did hate it, that feeling must have fueled his performance because Louis was definitely a tortured being. Ha! I can't remember if I first saw Brad in this movie or in Thelma & Louise, but either way, I just remember being so impressed by him in the role of Louis.

For some reason they changed it in queen of the damned. I think they thought it would be confusing or something, but in the books it's magnus

people laugh at tom cruise as lestat but he was the highlight!! say what u want that man takes every role seriously, and the author of the book apologized to him bc she doubted his ability. It was actually brad that didn’t fully commit to the role. He tried to leave and was uninterested in the story.

But I had a great time rewatching with you all (you weren't annoying at all to me)! And I totally agree with your points of criticism at the end, and I'm really glad you watched the show first so that a lot of points in the show weren't spoiled.

I read the book in the 80s and really loved it, then this came out in the 90s and I LOVED Tom Cruise at the time, but hated him as Lestat! I was probably too into the Lestat I had in my head while reading the book. - which is Sam Reid - so I eventually got my Lestat many, many years later.

He was a slave owner in the book. His brother did die, not his wife. He wasn't married. The period is that time in the books. Claudia is the age here in the books. They are gay/bi in the book. Kirsten Dunst is amazing in this movie. Lestat doesn't come back until the 1980s in the books. Brad Pitt did have hair that long. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were the IT actors then.

This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I can't see anyone else as Louis lestat and Claudia. Really should have watched this first. It did come out first so it's weird comparing it to show, the show definitely changed stuff
