Paris Responds to Abbey's Request (2 of 2)

I don't like spiders, I'll admit it. And the bigger the spider, the greater the ick- factor. But there's a weird bell curve when it comes to spider size and scariness: Tiny spiders, harmless; not scary. Big enough to harm a human, scary.  Even bigger, scarier still. But when you get up to Bob's size, or, say, the tarantula in Tarantula, you enter an abstract, impossible-to-believe level that I can't engage with. In a short story, Stephen King once wrote of a city worker who went down into the sewers and saw a spider the size of a dog, with cocooned cats in its web. If that doesn't make your nuts (or what have you) crawl, there is something very wrong with you.
