Having a focus on Gotenks would be far more interesting then them getting the same transformations as there father's individually kind of like most of main characters are getting there own unique forms, UI, UE, Beast G, and Orange P. Gotenks needs something unique as well.

Thats how I feel. I want them to improve individually but not with god ki just yet. They are said to have more potential than their fathers so push to see how they can go with their saiyan powers first before introducing god ki.

Honestly, those boys needs more development into their base forms before even considering the idea of bringing them up the "power poll" alongside even Gohan and Piccolo as they are now via the events following the Heroes movie. Neither Goten or Trunks have pushed past even ssj2 individually...well I know Trunks has, but Goten hasn't.

Gotenks would be a good direction to go. Having them get super saiyan God is typical. Besides you can go the gotenks route and incorporate God level transformations as well. Gotenks should get something special just for that form.
