The mother probably knows that imperial officers/soldiers are abusive (and very possibly even more exploitative towards women and girls) and therefore is being protective toward the daughter, not wanting her to show defiance towards the imperials and give them more reasons to take advantage of yet another farmer girl. 31:25 - LOL probably not all that many native english speakers even know that "ochre" is a color (or how to spell it), let alone that it matches a field of grain.
