There's room for both. Skeleton Crew was a huge fun romp that I totally loved, but that doesn't take away from how good Andor is, and I think it's important that both sides can exist in the same universe.

Ged_UK

Can't wait to see how much Milena will come to love Kleya

Jameson

After Andor it's Fallout right? I'm debating just going ahead and watching Fallout S2 now vs watching along with the girls.

Camzeee

i love this lmao

Synyster

There was, and still is, a lot of negative feedback regarding the sexual assult scene. People were whining about how theres no place for it in star wars if you could imagine. That day proved a lot of star wars fans are infantile and dont really want mature themes in star wars. They want mature themes masked in fun lightsaber fights and quick jokes like they were in their childhoods.

Mate

It's crazy that Luthen and Kleya are not only running a good part of the rebellion, they are also legitimately great at their day jobs as antiquity dealers.

You can't dance yrself clean, Mon RIP BOZO! to: Tay Kolma. Turns out her politics WERE a bit strong for your taste. See ya later, dummy RIP king! to: Brasso. Unlike Lola I did not immediately clock him as doomed and this was devastating the first time I saw it. The frame where Cassian gasps for breath and kisses his forehead is unbearable. We should all be the Brasso in others lives, and we should all be so lucky to have a Brasso in our lives.

Joshua Something

The best villains because they are treated as people equally to the protagonists. So rare and so amazing.

David Seeholzer

So so true 🤯

Jesse S

I literally never put it together that Brasso was protecting the guy, I’m an idiot.

Patrick

Mon Mothma this episode: https://tenor.com/lSPQOIQmmTo.gif Call me a psycho but Dedra is my favourite character. Syril and Krennic are great too. This show has great villains.

Mark M

I'll never skip the discussions to your videos, intro our outro if i have disney for watch alongs i watch the reaction twice. It's giving me so much strength to watch other people being as upset about current events as i am and not talking them small or trying to block them out.

PudelNudel

Suddenly, I've realized that I forgot to put Thelma & Louise on the movie recs list..

Jamie

Lmao every episode of Andor is a rollercoaster 😭

Jesse S

Every frame of this show is like a painting, the direction, the writing, and especially the ACTING…my god. Props to Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgard, and Genevieve O’reilly in particular! Their ability to act with only facial expressions never ceases to amaze me.

Jesse S

Niamos was in my top 5 songs on Spotify wrapped lol I love it so much 😭

I'm facing an issue with your Patreon uploads that are on YouTube. I can't play them because YouTube asks me to "Sign in to confirm you’re not a bot" for some reason. And I can't sign in because there's no button to press because it's on Patreon. I'm signed in on YouTube anyway. This issue is making me unable to watch your posts. EDIT: I found a workaround by copying the URL by right-clicking.

Also on the topic (previously alluded to in my other comment) of empires appropriating the cultures of the people they conquer and oppress: Take note of the much of the music and dress of Chandrillans, and also of upper-class imperial society more generally, and especially large urban centers of power as exemplified by the capital of Coruscant. The now-[in]famous "Niamos" EDM-style song is the same melody as what was playing at the Morlana brothel where Andor went searching for his sister, all the way back in the opening scenes of Season 1. It was then also played when introducing the eponymous beach resort planet of Niamos in episode 7 of S1. Tony Gilroy conceived of the song being a galaxy-wide "hit song" that originated from the resort city, created by the performers and local service workers which cater to rich tourists. Most viewers will likely have missed it, but the very same "Niamos" tune (in a softer, slower rendition) was ALSO being played in the background at Mon's dinner party for Senators and Coruscant high society (S1 ep 08 "Narkina 5"), where they introduce the Chandrillan "squig" worm cocktail (and when Tay Kolma first raises the new imperial banking regulations, when Mon brings up her 400K bank withdrawal for the first time, and later when Perrin and Mon discuss their own child marriage with another couple who admired their large window view of the city at night). Similar EDM-style music played in the background at moments during Mon's earlier dinner party in ep 7 "Announcement" and then once more in the finale ep 12 "Rix Road", when Mon argues in their limousine about Perrin's "gambling addiction" - it's the style of music emanating out from the fancy high society party that Perrin was walking out of and before getting into the car. Chandrillans and imperial high society actually has many influences from Japanese style and culture. This is because George Lucas originally created a fictional culture for the Jedi that was heavily inspired by the samurai and bushido, and by the aesthetics around that culture and ethos, and of course also from films like Akira Kurosawa's "Hidden Fortress" (1958). Perrin's robes and hairstyle, first introduced in S1 ep 04 "Aldhani", are very kimono-like and the hair almost identical to the traditional "chonmage" top-knot. The empire may have physically eradicated the Jedi Order nearly two decades prior, but both directly and indirectly, the style and culture of the conquered get adapted, assimilated and [re]appropriated into features of both the new mainstream and "high" cultures. Just as the EDM-style music, popular among the "lower class" citizens that inhabit brothels and the criminal underworld, eventually gets adapted into the upper-classes... who oppress and exploit the lower-class creators and originators. "Pop" or "Top 100" music and anything culturally "cool" tends to come from the grassroots, "underground", or "counterculture", only to later become mainstream - and extremely profitable as a cultural commodity for the capital owners to extract value from.

You two GET this show! The rest of this season is simply incredible. Something you’ll never forget. I promise.

Mon Mothma’s dance was the final thing that the actress filmed for the series

My Toasty Toast

In my opinion it also solidifies how rotten the Republic was in its twilight years because I imagine the Kinderblocks Dedra grew up in are not run much differently now

My Toasty Toast

13:00 There are some viewers who claim there is a continuity error or "break" from canon, since Dedra is obviously at least in her late 20's (the actor Denise Gough herself is now 45) and so when she was three years old, it would clearly still officially have been called the "Republic" back then. But this accusation overlooks how empires frequently [re-]appropriate and lay claim to the prior history and heritage of the very same people[s] they conquer or wipe out. So an "imperial kinder-block" actually starting out as just another "republic" era orphanage isn't so unusual when taken in consideration. The most potentially ironic/tragic thing is that her parents being "criminals" is very possibly just another trumped up charge, when in fact they could also have been arbitrarily arrested and sentenced in the same way that Cassian was later simply snatched off the beach at the resort planet of Niamos for "looking suspicious", and in reality he was just going to the store for drinks and "peezos" (a legal stimulant drug in the SW universe). Her parents may even have been early "rebels" who were politically conscious and actively resisting against the Republic, which was already quite corrupt and oppressive by then, and all before anyone was even thinking of calling it an "empire".

film *ABOUT nazis ;-)

X Yuan

well, there were also the many successful shots in ferrix... 😭 of course, this is the one SW property where they finally depicted stormtroopers as genuinely fearsome and lethal :-p

X Yuan

[possible slight spoiler?] I believe Gough said in interviews that she researched female PSYCHOpaths, not necessarily "sociopaths". The distinction isn't always well defined or even agreed upon among the supposed "experts", and obviously there's lots of overlap. (And in this case Dedra is obviously a bit of both.) Gough specified psychopaths - and female serial killers. And the one thing she mentioned which stood out about them (other than their relative scarcity in comparison to male serial killers), is that such women rarely carry out the crime themselves: they almost always convince or manipulate a man to do the deed instead.

X Yuan

<3 Brasso. Rest in Power, King. Mon Mothma dancing through the pain is something we can all relate to You have friends everywhere. Cant wait for you to join us in the spoiler-free zone after Rogue One.

Andrew G Walton

It’s because the Academy can only relate to rich people abroad (White Lotus)

My Toasty Toast

"The Zone of Interest" is an amazing movie precisely because of how much it leaves to the imagination. Most of it is just the everyday life of the Höss family as they enjoy their idyllic country life in rural Poland, even as their dream home is situated literally right next to a death camp. Most of the horror comes from sounds rather than visuals. Highly recommended.

Nubile Reptile

'The Zone of Interest' is the nazi film you were thinking of

Kerplang

Hard Agree.

Cole Deucalion

What an amazing episode to close the year for Andor! relieving it with you makes me remember just how insanely rich and well made every storyline is. I will try to keep my thoughts short but I make no promises. First, Chandrilla and the wedding have always reminded me of former soviet countries regression to ultra conservative traditions like Poland or even Yugoslav, like well... Yours. But I was made aware of the customs of a Hindu wedding and I have to say that combined with its politics this atavistic attitude is most reminiscent of the Hindutva of Narenda Modi's India. Fantastic work on the production there, Genevieve o' Reilly have an emmy worthy performance as Mon Mothma, crushing out of her daughter's situation, her friend... Everyone. The Mina Rau stuff, as you said tale as old as time, just look at the US, Quatar, UAE... And women are of course the most vulnerable to be targeted for sexual assaults in those situations. The dinner with Eeedy should be a thing that entire essays, even books are written. Showcases how these fascists, these freaks can't have anything resembling a normal personal life and develop friendships and relationships based on mutual respect. Can't stop laughing off of Dedra training her smile Syril lying in bed, every commentary Eedy makes, Sharp as knife. Really could go on but this is getting too long and I am sure many other people in the community will add their thoughts on this brilliant addition. P.S NIAMOS (Chandrilian Club mix) is a banger once the trauma of the scene wears off one of my most listened songs of the year P.S 2 the Zone of Interest is a brialliant uneasy and very important movie for today, the Director Jonathan Glazer has been very supportive of Gaza.

broken king

Sorry to butt in with another comment, but when Lola said that Dedra turned out to be "like a sociopath in a lot of ways" by being raised by the Empire, I had to interject. Denise Gough, the actress who plays Dedra, said she researched female sociopaths when preparing for the role. So, well done Lola.

Joseph Olson

Absolutely agree. Denise has been one of the most courageous voices in Hollywood when it comes to opposing the genocide. The fact that she seems to be such a caring and empathetic person in real life makes her performance all the more impressive.

Mahad Ali

Regarding Syril lying face down on the bed. That wasn’t in the script and there is fun interview where actress who plays Dedra talks about what an inspired choice by Kyle Soller, the actor who plays Syril. It so perfectly displays both despair but also his regression into a childlike state in response to his mom’s abuse. It was also hilarious.

Mahad Ali

My favorite part of that debate was that lot saying that they would have been okay with it if it wasn’t called “rape” on the show and maybe had used “a more Star Wars-y name” instead.

Dean

The film about the Nazi commandant and his family is called "The Zone of Interest", about the commandant of Auschwitz Rudolf Hoss. I haven't seen it, but have heard nothing but good things about it. There was another film I did see that had a similar storyline called "The Boy In The Striped Pajamas". It was an okay film, but there were some problems with it. Brasso's death was heartbreaking. When I watched this show for the first time I thought along the same lines, that Brasso would get killed much sooner in Season One. The fact that the show spared him until this episode was so much worse than if they had killed him earlier, because we had time to come to care about him more. There were supporting characters killed in the first season, and they are soon forgotten. We won't forget Brasso. You nailed it about Mon being blind-sided by Luthen telling her "How nice for you." Mon is an idealist. She doesn't want to think about the necessity of killing people, even if she understands in the abstract that it sometimes has to happen. I also loved how the show had her reaction be to become drunk and dance. The name of the actress who plays Mon is Genevieve O'Reilly. I loved that Milena had a little Freudian slip when she said "I don't know if she cares about Cereal." when talking about Dedra and Syril's relationship (57:19). How many times did we see Syril eating cereal at his mother's apartment in the first season? That was great, Milena. It made me laugh. A brilliant episode, and it just gets better from here.

Joseph Olson

I don't know if anyone told you guys yet, but if Darth Vader had been there when Bix was assaulted, he wouldn't have let it happen. FYI.

fox_e_crow

I think the movie you were referring to in the post discussion might be “Zone of interest”

BigJo H

The lesson here is, if you like a character don't learn their name :(

HenryM

We can also loosley tie this to the interaction between Mon and Luthen… While, as james baldwin points out, knowledge is a burden… ignorance is bliss. Which is why Luthen tells her “how nice for u” when she feigns ignorance at what he will do to Tay Koma.

Mahad Ali

The post show commentary reminds me of the following James Baldwin quote: “To be a Negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a state of rage almost all of the time” His point was that once u become aware of systemic discrimination, you see how it pervades almost everything in society and when u also see the ignorance and indifference of ur fellow citizens, it is hard not to be constantly angry. I think this also applies to the way undocumented workers are treated. The entire united states relies on their labor to feed their families yet so many millions are at best indifferent to their suffering.

Mahad Ali

The movie you’re thinking of is Zone of Interest

Dean

This episode adds yet another element of why it’s *on sight* with any Imperial for Cassian’s crew. For any that have suffered like they have under an imperial regime, the only resolution to the conflict is the gallows for the party or parties responsible. I’m reminded of the ending of Come and See more than I am Return of the Jedi

Dean

And the season only gets better from here

Dean

Tony Gilroy is on record that his favorite scene of the entire series is the dinner scene with Dedra, Eedy and Syril, where Dedra gets to be the good guy for once and beautifully puts Eedy in her place. Syril's bed flop was improvised; per Kyle Soller, his actor, it's what he would be doing in that situation.

Nubile Reptile

Respectfully couldn’t disagree more, thought it was handled as well as it could have been.

Daniel Molina

The ONE time a stormtrooper hits their shot 😭😭😭

Daniel Molina

Anyone else think that attempted rape scene was unnecessary? Like we get it, the empire is evil, we didn't need this to further hammer in that point. It seems to me it was just put there for shock value.

BND

Rollercoaster of emotions this episode. I still can’t believe they left B2 😭

James Anthony

Lets give Denise Gough, who plays Dedra, all her flowers. She seems like such a warm and sweet person in real life and is one of the most outspoken actors on the genocide in Palestine. The fact that she can flip the switch to Dedra in the blink of an eye speaks to her abilities as an actress. She is TERRIFYING, hope we see her get more roles 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Daniel Molina

I refuse to start the year 3 episodes behind with Andor and WAY behind with everything else... Tonight i won't sleep 😂

sand_fl

Just a reminder that Genevieve O'Reilly got almost no award recognition for her role as Mon Mothma. Yes, awards committees don't matter but I don't know how you can watch her performance of Mon over the seasons and in THIS episode in particular and not be blown away.

JC

This was def one of the many emotional episodes of the season and it’s only getting more intense 😮‍💨
