My dad is called Peter Bishop so this opening was so strange to me hahah

Robthefunkyhomosapien

Tony was going to have him reveal that he figured out what she was doing and was going to support her! And he was genuinely jealous with the Tay situation because he loved Mon.

I’m in constant awe at the quality of this show and how it never fails to entertain me no matter how many times I’ve rewatched it, god I love art so much.

Perrin is smarter than it seems on the surface. That shot of him looking at Kleya and Luthen seems to imply he's much more aware of what's going on then we first think. Tony Gilroy admitted that they didn't show Perrin's other side as much he wished they had in season 1. Perrin does a lot of organizational work for Mon. He keeps her schedule and does his own share of gladhanding on her behalf. In a way, we don't see it because Mon fails to see it. In the same way she failed to see her daughter drifting away. She gave it all to the rebellion and her relationship with her family suffered as a result. The dinner he set up in season 1 was part of running her Senatorial position. It gave her direct casual access to friends and enemies.

I love that Syril is their boy lol!

What does Palpatine look like you ask? In his own words, "scarred and deformed."

Biberius Caldius Mero

Dedra seems very dedicated to her job, so I guess finding a partner through work kind of makes sense (albeit not a direct colleague who'd be competition), although the way she met Syril is certainly extraordinary and very strange. Thinking about actual Nazis back in the day, unless you have a situation like the Höß family in Zone of Interest, I suspect often the husband murders thousands of people in Poland while his wife stays back in Germany and has only a more or less vague idea of what her husband is doing? The status of a high ranking position in the regime and all that comes with it would certainly be attractive to many people.

the weird psychosexual fascist romance was so dear to me, i enjoy freaks.

I'd just like to compliment their deliberate choice of always using an actual frame from the episode reaction in their thumbnail. Almost all other channels just use a stock sad face, shocked face, happy face, etc. It must take a bit more work but it really speaks to their authenticity. Merry Christmas LM.

“I don’t know why I love her as well” (about Kleya). Just giving me the biggest smile.

I was ambivalent when I realized they were going to put Syril and Dedra in a relationship this season. Based on last season, I expected he might have a role as one of Dedra's low level underlings in the ISB, with her giving him a chance to prove himself because he saved her on Ferrix. But he just gave off too many 'creepy stalker' vibes for me to consider the idea Dedra would want anything to do with him romantically, so it took me by surprise to see them sharing an apartment. In an interview, Dedra's actress Denise Gough has openly said she shared my unease, since she worried it would destroy Dedra as a character, and voiced her concerns to Tony Gilroy. But she changed her mind when she saw Dedra's story this season, and I also came around after I saw this season. It did make me spend some time pondering what the dating lives of Gestapo agents are like. Would someone like Dedra have a lot of options, romantically speaking? I'm certain there's a percentage of the dating pool out there who are turned on by someone who spends their days torturing and murdering undesirables in defense of a fascist regime, but I'd like to think most people consider it a relationship red flag.

works now

I think Andor is a masterpiece, but man those kids Cassian is stuck with take me out of the show. So glad we’re done with that part 10/10 all the way through from here

Lonni: "And what is your sacrifice?" Lola: "I can only watch one episode because I built a bed."

Michael M

No you're absolutely right, the whole storyline is very conspicuously there as a way to keep Cassian occupied for the first two episodes so that he can swoop in heroically in the 3rd episode. (If he were around with the rest of the gang from the start, it would diminish the jeopardy that Bix, Brasso, and Wimon find themselves in.) It's the single worst plotline in the show and one of the only times the show does such noticeable "chess piece moving" of characters.

I think the mini storyline at the start of this season with Andor and the rebels in the jungle is probably the weakest part of the show and the only thing that stops it being a 10/10 show for me. Don't get me wrong I understand what they're trying to do with it showing how fractured and disorganised the rebellion is at this point with no central command structure but I just think it's poorly executed. It sort of feels like it was a B team sent out to film those scenes and the actors also don't feel up to the same standard. It just suddenly feels like a teen drama show rather than the sophisticated piece of television the rest of it is. Anyway the rest of the season is absolutely perfect and I know you will have brilliant commentary regarding future events

[potential spoilers] ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... There was a planned scene and story arc, but ultimately not finished nor shot or performed, where Perrin confronted Mon and revealed that he knew all along that she was funding the rebellion and could have been an ally, but she tragically had shut him out of that part of her life until it was too late.

X Yuan

True, lol. Though I think the left (and L&M regarding their own domestic politics) should also be EXTREMELY careful about alliances with open far-right-wingers, despite sharing the same ostensible enemy. [Potential spoilers ahead?] ... ... ... ... ... One of the few "downsides" to Andor, and the SW universe and the "Rebellion" generally, is that the class line is very weak. It ultimately ends up being at best a bourgeois revolution that effectively only restores the nominal "democracy" of the Old Republic. Constituent worlds can remain monarchies and/or worlds where mega corporations, robber barons, and warlords might still run rampant. In a way, the conservative Ross Douthat was inadvertently "astute" [inasmuch as an establishment conservative can be "astute"] in his NYT interview with Tony Gilroy when he asked why Andor was written as a "leftist" story, but Gilroy [while left-leaning in real life] deflected somewhat and said it would be more accurate to frame it more as "anti-fascist" or more broadly "anti-authoritarian/totalitarian", and that while his historical inspirations were heavily influenced by modern revolutions which were explicitly "left", he also drew from pre-19th century movements and uprisings including the English civil wars of the 17th century or even dating as far back to antiquity, like the slave rebellions in ancient Rome.

Leftist infighting, a tale as old as time unfortunately

It's a Christmas (Eve) miracle!

MERRY CHRISTMAS YALL

Scared Cannon

link doesn't work for me

T0ast

I really enjoy Perrin's speech because it's an effective look at what a lot of people in the world have. Privilege to look away, to find "joy" and escape wherever they can, myself included. He's someone who knows what's going on is wrong, but is insulated and disillusioned enough to not want to do anything about it, and him choosing to try to impart this lesson on his daughter both has a bit of wisdom to it while also being at odds with actual change and the show's overall messages. I think this episode's the one that made me actually interested in him

The 100

BigJo H

Anyone know what "the show that must not be named" is? Haha

Myeh

Merry Christmas everyone! Good work girls, as always I really think this episode demonstrates the problems in the rebellion from the ground level being disorganised and lacking in solidarity and trust and the upper echelons having problems with types like Tay Kolma who cares at the end of the for his bottom line and his wealth. Liked how they linked the Bix/ Brasso/ Wilmon storyline to undocumented immigration and the exploitation of labour especially in the agricultural sector.

broken king

Christmas came early this year \o/ Always a treat, you two. Living together now? Surely that means more reactions, right? 😇🙏

Hollow

You two do THE best Andor reaction (I think I've watch about 4 other reactors). Merry Christmas!

Ben

I’m glad you could recognise the infighting being used as a representation for the rebellion at that moment, with nobody to lead and unify them.

James Anthony

Episode 3 would be a great gift for yourselves, I swear. It’s so good.

Dean

Merry Christmas everyone! : )
