incredible writing. it's telegraphed that Grimmer would be out there to tell Milos he's wanted. but the closer it gets to that moment, the more it seems it won't happen. so when it does, that hug all the more powerful

He’s always giving side stories and side characters a big moment across multiple episodes or arcs, and drops these tiny hints for the main plot in them, like Johan’s reaction to “My mom will recognize me". You can always tell when it’s Urasawa, and you will notice the same vibe in Pluto too, when we watch it in summer!

2025-11-21 13:36:27 +0000 UTCIn case you forgot, we're watching PEAK Anime/Manga storytelling here. One of my favorite episodes in any Anime ever. That last scene with Grimmer and Milos is SO layered its insane. Grimmer is, on the surface, speaking to Milos about being wanted. But subconsciously, Grimmer speaking about his Son being wanted even though he never cried for him after he died. Grimmer is also crying for himself and telling his younger self that he was wanted and here for a reason even though he was placed into Kinderheim. When Grimmer lifts Milos from over the bars, I have to imagine its a VERY similar experience to when he lifted his lifeless son over the bars of his crib. Milos was lifeless and Grimmer, through expressing emotions he could never express for his dead son, brings Milos "back to life". Just an INCREDIBLE scene in terms of writing and subtext.
