Just to clarify, the guys we met in this episode are not related to kinderheim 511, they said they are related to the Czech secret police

For me, the movie was a big disappointment. I knew there would be major changes with the new direction, but I didn’t expect such a huge drop in enjoyment compared to watching Chainsaw Man Season 1. Those silly sound effects during the funny moments feel like laugh tracks in old sitcoms, and they completely ruin the scene for me. I really miss Nakayama's animation style. It captured that gritty, cinematic, and deeply human atmosphere. I read the manga after Season 1, and I could clearly picture how he would have handled future moments, which made me even more excited. The new style feels so flat and generic that many moments I was really looking forward to ended up just being fine. I also miss the calm, atmospheric scenes. The stretch from minute 5 to 12 was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with Chainsaw Man, and I expected so much more from that event. I enjoyed most of it after the 12-minute mark, but it still felt like any other anime, nothing special anymore, except for a few standout scenes and the finale. But honestly, even a high schooler couldn’t have messed up that final scene. It was already great in the manga.

So I just saw the chainsaw movie… bittersweet dude. Spoilers that aren’t really spoilers: Like really really good, the change in animation style was handled very smoothly, and some parts of the art direction was directly pulled from the manga. The action rivaled episode 17 of the shibuya incident, in both flavor and length (that’s what she said), and given what the movie’s plot is, I think the pacing was handled perfectly, with one tiny nitpick of mine at the end. The first season was a master class of making a crazy dark story feel grounded, and I’ll die on the hill defending it’s brilliance in both direction and pacing, but I think the movie did a very good job of acknowledging the previous art style by pacing itself with its new approach. That isn’t to say they take it slow, but it isn’t heavy handed if that makes sense. It knows what viewers have already seen, and chose a new lane that doesn’t feel completely removed from what we already got. As for the story, it’s more of the same, as in you literally can’t predict it. Even me, who’s been spoiled on certain deaths and true motivations, had no idea what that woman would do. Denji got some growth, but goddamn… why it gotta be like this?
