Perplexed by the description of Pete's confession to Peggy as a "pass" and a "self-entitled" one at that, when it's perhaps the most open and vulnerable thing he has done in this series so far.

Pete is just....what can we even say about Pete? I think him telling Don about the merger is the most "moral" stand he has ever taken in the show so far, where there is no IMMEDIATE benefit for him but he's doing it because he thinks it's the 'right thing to do'. But immediately following it up with the exact same self-entitled pass at Peggy is just so sad. He's such a child, and doesn't even realize it. Although for some reason my memory had Peggy's confession to Pete happening later in the series. I don't know why my memory moved it around. Speaking from a purely business perspective, with the past season to think about, it looks like Duck Phillips was never the right choice as Head of Accounts for S&C. He has a different strategy and perspective than the management already in place, and neither were ever able to bring the other around to their own way of thinking. That doesn't even mean that Duck is wrong. But he's not right for this company. I think it would've been better for everybody involved if he just hadn't been hired in the first place, and S&C got a Head of Accounts who had the same priorities that the rest of them do. (Not Pete, he wasn't ready, but maybe one of the other candidates Don was interviewing at the time). Other comments already went over it, but the Cuban Missile Crisis was a unique moment in history. People didn't just think that the war might start 'someday', they thought it might start NOW because the situation seemed to be spiraling out of control. So everybody's going through immediate fears of mortality, even more oppressive than the usual fears about nuclear war happening 'eventually'.

Stellar TV. The ending scene is so nuanced. Betty is stunningly beautiful in physical appearance but seems to be a tragic figure. I feel for Duck with his alcoholism but not a fan. Peggy continues to impress (and Elisabeth Moss such an incredible actor). Agree that Peggy is the antithesis of Betty. Pete is weird but I sense more complexity from him. I have not been a fan of Pete but he became more interesting to me this episode. I want to say more about Pete but won't. Don continues his role as one of the most interesting protagonists in the history of TV.
