2025-08-09 12:04:13 +0000 UTCJust remember the phrase “Look at me! Look at me! The monster inside of me has grown this big!” it’s going to play an important role later on. One of the things I love most about Monster is how its central mystery is Johan himself, with every single character in the story tying into that mystery in such a perfectly woven way. So many people consider Johan to be the greatest villain in all of anime and manga and honestly, possibly one of the greatest antagonists of all time. He is the most terrifyingly well-written character I’ve ever seen, and the way Naoki Urasawa brings him to life is just genius. For me, Monster’s greatest strength is its characters. Not only does it have the best villain I’ve ever seen on screen, but it also has some of the best-written side characters and one of the strongest overall casts I’ve come across. And while Johan gets a lot of the praise, we have to talk about my boy Tenma. one of the most underrated protagonists ever. The dynamic between him and Johan is just UGHHHH, so tense and brilliantly crafted. I seriously love this show.

But after the horror he becomes aware of at Mrs. Kemp 's house he can't help but become a very important ally for tenma. I remember the first time I watched that scene in the house, I was so frightened for Gillien. The implications of Johan's powers really start to seep into the mind with this one, and the larger picture starts to come to the surface.

Both initially targeted young girls but later killed elderly. Both threatened their interviewers.
