Monster is one of my favorites story of all time and it's because it's very human. It can be dark but it can also be very beautiful. That's why i wanted you to react to it, i know you'd be touched by it. And i wasn't wrong so happy you are loving it so far <3

We’re in a string of fantastic episodes, these reactions can’t come out fast enough

My Toasty Toast

Monster can get really dark but probably not in the way you guys are accostumed to. Some scenes will hit you like a truck but not because of their shock value but because of their emotional weight. You've already seen this in episode 12. Dieter was not going to get his head blown off, this is not that type of show, but you were going to be made to understand the degree of abuse he endured. I will say this because I watched enough of your reactions to know what you guys like: this will become one of your favorite shows ever.

one thing about Monster is that it just gets better

It was so funny, but in the end Monster's defeat in that poll was a good thing: it gave them 10 months to mentally prepare themselves for one of the most brilliant and beautiful stories ever written in Anime.

13 is a unlucky number at least in the USA. Many hotels don't have a 13th floor

Remember how much shit haikyuu fans talked about Monster in the Anime Poll Battle of the Ages? lolol

I agree. Just because Monster is a crimi-thriller doesn't mean it's like Death Note. The characters and their motives are way more important.

The show definitely has dark moments and has heavy themes, but the show never gives you dark scenes simply to be dark or shocking. There’s always a reason and a story behind everything. It’s really such a realistic and human show. In my opinion, this show is more similar to frieren rather than death note like a lot of people may have told you.

Just in case: Here the ending images so far: https://imgur.com/a/monster-endings-episode-1-12-gBrh4PV And you should watch 15-17 and 23-24 together!

I would say that Monster is a very human story, but also has several dark elements. It's just the way Urasawa writes stories. Compared to Haikyuu, it's clearly the darker story.

I think the show is accurately advertised. It is dark. But it is also MATURE. That's the difference. I mean in 13 episodes we've explored topics of life and death, parenthood, medical ethics and politics, child abuse in orphanage institutions. And I'm sure many more that is not reaching my mind right now. Its just done in such a mature and beautiful way. So yeeah I do think Monster is dark and accurately advertised. Its just not in the typical superficial way that most shows like to do "dark adult content." Monster loves exploring its themes more than anything, and isn't afraid to go to dark places at times. Which we just recently saw in the last couple episodes. With Monster.. if graphic violence and extreme subject matter isn't necessary to get the point across.. then Monster won't do it. Its called restraint and trusting the audience. I do laugh at the comparisons to Death Note that Monster gets. The difference is Death Note is a shonen series for teenagers. Its not complex as many think nor was it meant to be. It was always just about the thrilling cat and mouse game. Hence why the themes of Morality and Justice are not as deeply explored as you would've wanted. They were always just the decorations on top and not meant for serious exploration. Monster is a mature adult story with complex themes and does so beautifully. The beauty of Monster is its core themes of the Meaning of Life, the Weight of what it means to take a life and the nuanced circumstances and choices that can make someone capable of being a monster. That's why we spend so many episodes just going from town to town helping people. We're watching Tenma's journey as he contemplates what it would mean to take the life of someone by being invited into someone else's life and understand what they live for. Which would lead to the ultimate question.. are you willing to take that from someone? It definitely makes for a great contrast between Tenma who finds great value in life and has difficulty taking it and Johan who takes lives so easily. Sorry for the essay 😂

When I think of tenma I flash to Livia in sopranos "he s a saint!"
