i recently started monster and milena is so valid for reading the date wrong. i did the exact same thing when my sister asked me the date and we watched 3 episodes convinced that it's the 60s lmao.

the after credits changes occasionally and is very important to the story progression btw. would advise to let it play through each episode like you guys usually do with a lot of series :)

Monster is a rare anime that, IMO, has zero bad episodes.

Monster really is an amazing show. However, what I have seen is that there are 3 types of audience who viewed Monster in different ways:
1) The ppl who feel the story is boring starting from episode 1 and dislike the whole show.
Reason: Unknown
2) Ppl who love the show starting from episode 1 to the end.
3) Ppl who feel interesting at first but lost interest and disappointed after episode 8.
Reasons:
- They are not get used to slow pace story.
- They expect climax and twist scenes in most episodes like Death Note.
- They expect the wrong thing from the whole show-detective show (it does but actually it mainly focus on psychological thriller and philosophy)
- They give highly expectation to the show and disappointed when it did not turn it out with what they want.
But I dont worry about LM since they are not the kind of ppl who expect too much unnecessary climax scene and get used to slow pace story. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the show!

detail: he lost democratically and without wanting to show off, Brazil has the best and safest voting system a country could have and even so he incited his supporters to attempt a coup d'état (which fortunately failed because they are so stupid that they didn't even know how to do that)

The conversation about the president of Serbia and the horrible acts he committed reminds me of the former president of my country (Brazil). He governed from 2019 to 2022, and right at the time of the pandemic, the guy literally imitated people dying without air, denied that the virus was fatal from the beginning, and spread an anti-vaccine movement. We didn't reelect him, he lost to the greatest political leader in the history of this country, who is our current president today (Lula). But the damage and brainwashing he did to half the population is something that unfortunately cannot be reversed. He lost by a very small margin, and next year's elections will also be very disputed. The extreme right is growing absurdly here, and all we can do is fight against it.

The story you were telling in the discussion Lola actually reminded me of something personal. My father worked for a concrete company and he was working on a certain project and one of the companies order the wrong parts to hold the scaffolding up but instead of ordering new parts and delaying the project they just “made it work”. It ended up falling and my father and another man lost their lives bc of that. Another man was severely injured. Yet when it started being reported on all the companies involved were arguing like toddlers and speaking of the ppl who died like they were inconvenience. All they did was point fingers and some even just offered up an amount of money and basically left the conversation. It was actually horrific to watch how all these companies treated the death of their workers as if they were just objects that can be replaced. I agree with what you said at the end how it’s hard to believe that ppl as evil as the doctors can exist but yea unfortunately they do. What I was most excited for in regards to these reactions were the discussions and I can’t wait until we start getting into the thick of it !!!
For anyone that actually read all this sorry for the long comment ✌🏼😘 I love this show

Urasawa loves politics. Monster focuses on the deeds and philosophy of the two sides in the Cold War and their consequences after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Pluto criticizes the Iraq war and the United States. 20th Century Boys focuses on fascism and propaganda. His works are always very polarizing, but also not black and white. They really should get more attention.

Yeah by the discussion I can tell this show is definitely going to trigger some relatable topics for you girls. I feel like what this anime does well is how grounded it feels at times due to the nature of how Urasawa wrote this story.

I haven't watched the netflix version but what I understood is that the change of music might change the tone of some scenes in the netflix version (also on netflix the ending song changes)

This is a link for original Japanese Monster in 4K, with all the original music and EDs as they should be. The files under ‘Matroska’ are the ones without compression.
NOTE: the files need to be opened in a media player like VLC or Windows Media Player to access the subtitles
To my knowledge, this is the best version that’s easily available.

When poisoned candy is sent to a child in the hospital, the expectation is that the child will eat the candy, not the doctors in charge. But that is my thinking about it :D
I'm looking forward to your reaction to the next episodes.

the vibes of this anime are something else man... Urasawa is a monster, everything he writes is a masterpiece, I'm still waiting for 20th Century Boys to get an anime adaptation though...
