The Sopranos 6x01 Reaction

what a way to start off the last season

Arties a weasel 😂

fionan franklin

Gonna go to bat for Barry too. One of the best shows from HBO in the past decade

Sverrir_Thor

Did you just talk about adding another slot for the last of us?? Never thought i'd heard that lol but more seriously it'll be better for you to watch it as it released if it's a possiblity. The show is too popular to not react to it as it is released you could do like the dragon show and post it on youtube immediately. It's totally fine if you can't and just watch it after invincible but i'm afraid you'll get spoiled if you wait that long.

petitcorbeau

Barry would be awesome

Dogman

I highly recommend Barry for your next show. Its on HBO

Dogman

We've been saying this for months. It's the vast consensus in these comments. And they know this. Pretty sure they got the point long ago. It will be wonderful to see them react to it. And who knows, maybe they will inspire other thoughtful reactors to check it out.

Julien

Mad Men please and please and please

Dylan

Not long now 🙏🏻

Dylan

You guys should react to The Big Lebowski to see Tony B and Irving B in their natural element.

cheech

Season 3 was very decent as well imo.

Gaboxxy

Tony bitching about never catching a break and the smash cut to Raymond dying of natural causes in the middle of implicating him in a murder is far and away one of the most darkly funny moments of the show.

John Collins

It already happened, they prerecorded to cover it

Darrach

Dude 100% went goblin mode at the end there. I love how he hides in the closet after.

Mike

I recall them saying something about taking a break for a couple weeks. When is set to happen again ?

David Skipper

+1 for Barry!

BND

I agree. He's not a criminal like the other guys. He went through a brief mid-life crisis phase but that's it. If him and Charmaine sorted things out, what's the problem?

enchantertim

Mad Men is the last show that you haven’t seen that’s on the caliber of The Wire and The Sopranos

Jihn

You guys are so unforgiving of Artie. Yes he was being dumb but so what? You guys act like he's the same as Tony.

Nicholas

i choose mad men 1) because i've seen it and 2) because I have no idea how to watch twin peaks legally

Mahni Alizadeh

SPOILER ALERT: . . : . : : : One thing that in which both shows differ is in that, even though in both shows you have characters that are objectively awful humans (although obviously in different ways), in Mad Men usually they actually get an arc in which they grow, evolve and even better themselves, and I like that. As much as I love The Sopranos, I do think at times it can be a bit too cynic and pessimistic about human nature at it's core.

Gaboxxy

OHHHH! Again with this varsity shit. It's undermining, and it's the kind of stuff I'm teaching the other patrons not to do, so I don't wanna hear it again. END OF SUBJECT!

Gaboxxy

Barry would be amazing if you reacted to it. And Twin Peaks… your brains would explode, would love to see what you think of it

Alejandro Nostas

I’d add True detective series 1 and Fargo if you haven’t seen any of them. I’ve never seen mad men myself, but I’ve got the impression over the years that it’s very highly rated. Boardwalk empire was also brilliant, but I never got to finish the full series.

John

Just to let you know, if you decide to watch Fargo, you should watch the movie first. (It also has Steve Buscemi, who plays Tony B.) The movie is not closely connected to the plot of the series if at all, but it sets the tone for the series.

Biberius Caldius Mero

I haven't seen it mentioned much, but as far as artful "classics" go, you might want to keep David Lynch's Twin Peaks on your radar. It has three seasons and a movie between 2 and 3 ("Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me"). Season 3 returns 25 years later, which makes it interesting from a filmmaking perspective.

Peter

As much as I love Milena and Lola, they never had the makings of varsity athletes

j c

Yes

Isaac

For a shorter show I would LOVE if you guys watched Beef on Netflix!

mundanelotus

I knew mad men wouldn’t beat sopranos in the poll, but once sopranos is done I’m hoping for the best!

Patrick

Hell yeah, shout out to Treme

Mike

Boardwalk Empire

O. B

Mad Men, Atlanta, Deadwood,

O. B

Mad Men is among the greats like those other shows of that era. Like Sopranos, The wire and breaking bad. It’s not about gangs and guns, but it’s just as much about characters as any of the others.

Patrick

They've seen it sadly

Kara

DEADWOOD

Louis Ferdinand Celine

Mad Men is a good one to move onto after The Wire / Sopranos. It’s up there with the other highly praised classics.. But Barry is just pure brilliance. It’s a much shorter and snappier style of show. Very dark, but also very funny (similar vibe to the boys).. It’s not focussed on big picture storytelling like what happens to the city of Baltimore or Westeros. It’s just a story about our very flawed protagonist Barry, and the journey he goes on.. It’s so fucking good

windyMelon

I'll just leave another Deadwood mention so that it doesn't get forgotten; it's as much of a classic as Sopranos and The Wire. Mad Men would be cool too, obviously.

Simon M. y Atana Sumi

Are you ok?

HenryM

Boardwalk empire

robert klein

robert klein

Boardwalk empire is a great show also can i send you two money via PayPal i worship both of you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

robert klein

What? Mad Men is by far the most popular suggestion. Six Feet Under is probably the most pretentious show ever (though they would probably like it). It's the kind of crap Carmela was complaining about in s4, typical Alan Ball BS.

Abacus

Pity there's virtually no discussion of this episode as everyone is just commenting with show suggestions. Regarding Eugene, I think LM showed a lack of understanding of the business itself, framing the situation in terms of Tony's greed and lack of empathy "why can't Tony see how good it would be for Eugene and his family to start out and do something else with his life?". A few years ago, when Gene got made in the same ceremony as Chris, Tony stood before him and said "if you want to leave now that's fine, nobody will think any less of you. But once you've made this oath, there's no going back and no getting out". Tony is right to quip that Gene isn't a hockey player who can just retire. He made an oath, and he did so for his own benefit, for money, the same reason now he wants to get out. It's not a story about how heartless Tony is (we get plenty of that), it's a story about Gene's choices catching up with him and eventually having to make good on the deal with the devil.

Abacus

Have they seen Bojack Horseman?

Reuben Filimaua

Mad men please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please.

sami

Mad men all the way!!! :)

Richard Ramirez

Mad Men would definitely suit their tastes. I think if you like Sopranos for the deep characters, therapy sessions, humour, dialogue etc, and can enjoy a show with less action, Mad Men is a must. Plus it has great female characters and while it's still dark at times, it's a lot less dark than the Sopranos. I think they'd be hooked from the first episode.

Mark M

Time for One Piece! Lmao Yall loved The Wire so maybe give Treme a whirl same creator and actors from The Wire pop up, especially Lester. Or Boardwalk Empire if you wanna see Tony B and Omar. Also the dude you thought of as Saul from Mr Robot has a season as a batshit crazy dude in Boardwalk Empire.

Truemeathead

a bit late but have you guys seen The Leftovers?? Another HBO show that I just finished and man was it amazing! so so much to unpack with that one

lucdhx

Mad Men is unequivocally on the Mount Rushmore of great shows and a must watch.

Erik D

How about... More movie reactions?! :D

kevin coleman

BARRY is sooooooo good

Chad Gloria

100 comments in 4 hours? Oh, they asked for recommendations...

Abacus

I made the same suggestion a while back. Six Feet Under is definitely a show they should watch.

ajs

I vote Six Feet Under for the next series. I don't know why it's so under-watched in reaction world, but it's a classic and LM would love it

Solomon Wong

They have

Isaac

As if that bad boy isn't in my trusty arsenal at every Mad Men mention (including this comment section). You have a good eye for this sort of thing

Isaac

fargo s1 and s2 are incredible. s5 was very good too.

Kara

I want to join in the recommendations for MAD MEN as the replacement for Sopranos! I made a (no spoilers) hype trailer for LM fans to get across some of the tone / vibes, you can watch it here 🥰 https://youtu.be/TMkPu-NTkJI I'm not watching any of the current reactions (tho I watched the edit here and had fun!) but I stayed subbed cuz I can afford it 🙏 and I really want to watch the channel react to Mad Men and Andor some day 🥺

Kara

Have you guys seen LOST? Would be a big commitment they are like 800 episodes per season. Or maybe like 22ish. But that'd be my vote.

Kenneth thomas

only 2(3) seasons.

Christian Valdersnes

Twin Peaks !

Christian Valdersnes

Suggestion for a short show: True Detective (Season 1) is 8 episodes and it's probably the best single season of TV ever. The following seasons didn't measure up, but it's an anthology show and the story lines don't carry on to the next season.

Kenny

considering how backlogged the x1 week slot is maybe this x2 week slot could be used for andor after the sopranos. just a suggestion though, i’d also be happy if mad men followed up

Sebastian

Mad Men is great, but I honestly feel like it would be really refreshing to see you react to a comedy series. I believe The Good Place would be RIGHT up your alley: original concept that is pushed to the limit by great writing; fast paced storytelling that constantly finds ways to surprise you; funny, relatable and instantly likeable characters; A LOT of heart - you will be laughing and crying, sometimes simultaneously. It might actually be my favourite comedy series ever, slightly above Community and Parks and Rec (which has the same creator as The Good Place). The only advice I would give is to not even read the synopsis and go into it completely blind.

Andrew

Look at you, bringing the culture. That's a solid rec

Isaac

Unfortunately, they have already seen The Leftovers

Andrew

This is down the list of takeaways from this (terrific) episode, but it's a consequence of the violence that permeates these people's lives that a person in mental decline can be terribly dangerous. Tony spends 90% of the episode worrying about how to take care of his helpless uncle, and Junior shoots him because he's confused about an old murder. It's not unusual for people suffering through dementia to turn angry or aggressive, but when guns are in the house... you can get this.

Mike

I think if you want a few seasons you can do ‘Big Little Lies’. Great ensemble and some fantastic performances. ‘The Leftovers’ is also amazing and is 3 seasons. Mad Men is a can’t miss but longer. You’ll still love it. Top notch writing and acting across the board.

JayFi

Hope it's Mad Men !

Eric Viola

The disrespect mad men and six feet under are being shown. They are just as good if not better. And the fact there has never been a mention of six feet under is blasphemous. You are not finishing classics with the sopranos. I also don’t think breaking bad is in the same group as the wire, the sopranos, mad men or six feet under.

Cole

I think uncle June not having his upper dentures making him look like a goblin, smiling after he shot Tony, was really creepy and a nice touch

John

Succession is the closest a show has gotten to Mad Men for me personally!

bondbond53

double my sub cost idc. but for the love of God give me Sharp Objects 🙏

flawlessmisery

I'm currently on episode 2. It's obvious that Colin Farrell's take on Penguin was heavily inspired from Tony Soprano. Lots of similarities so far. It's really well done!

JG

Oh, Eugene. I made a comment back in the episode where Eugene was Made that you should keep an eye on him over the seasons. Despite being Made alongside Chris at the same time, we see that Chris is already a Captain now while Eugene hasn't advanced any further in the ranks. In previous seasons we've seen him working no-work jobs while Chris was given the more prestigious no-show jobs. He was running the card game where Chris and Furio were players. Always given the worse jobs and harder work. Despite never being shown as a screw-up like Chris, or being suspected of being a traitor like Paulie, Eugene has nevertheless always been a second-runner to everybody else. It's another example of one of the ways that all their talk of "honor" and "loyalty" is a crock. They think he's loyal, they think he's a hard worker, and because they don't like him as much or are related as closely he's pushed down below their cousins and their old friends. Gennaro "Little Pussy" Malanga, the man who Junior spent the episode talking about and who he thought he was shooting at the end, is the man who Junior wanted to kill back in the very first episode. The reason Tony burned down Artie's first restaurant. ---- "Mad Men" is the logical follow-up, and I'd be eager for a reaction. It is one of the shows that was almost a direct follow-up to this series. But to toss out a bunch of other recommendations which are great on their own merits: For long-running sci-fi TV shows, there's "Babylon 5" and "Farscape". * B5 is a mid-'90s series that ran for five seasons, and was scripted as a single continuous storyline for its entire run. All of the shows from the '00s that experimented with serialized storytelling were following in B5's wake. * "Fasrcape" is a late-'90s series that ran for four seasons with a concluding miniseries. This is the show that rejected the idea of people with forehead makeup as "aliens" and used puppetry and full-body paint and prosthetics to create some of the WILDEST creature concepts. For half-hour comedies there's "The Good Place", "Parks and Recreation", and "Schitt's Creek". * "The Good Place" is a BRILLIANT four-season series that follows a woman who has died and gone to 'the good place', except there's been a mix-up and she's not supposed to be there. I cannot overstate how smart but also hilarious and heartwarming this series is as it explores humanity and philosophy and morality. * "Parks & Rec" is a seven-season mockumentary series following the titular government department in a small town in Indiana. Despite being dismissed as a clone of "The Office" in its first season, it became a heartwarming look at small-town government and relationships and politics. * "Schitt's Creek" is a six-season series following a formerly wealthy family who have lost it all, and are forced to live in a small town (The titular Schitt's Creek) as they grapple with their new situation in life. Like the two other comedies I mentioned, it is bizarrely heartwarming and brilliant. Any of these would be a great series to follow.

JBK405

If you run out of shows to watch you can always react to movies, just an idea.

BND

Mad Men is a logical follow up but keep in mind, it is a Sopranos/Breaking Bad type anti-hero show as far as it's lead character goes (though there are more likable and moral supporting characters than say, Carmela, so it may still be more palatable). There isn't violence but a lot of the character flaws are of similar ilk. It's probably somewhere in between Sopranos and Succession in terms of the type of characters. Deadwood is a bit shorter and a thematically warmer show (though Mad Men is not as thematically cynical as Sopranos and Wire). It's still brutal but it's very humanistic at it's core and is criminally underrated in general.

Veya

I haven't seen Mad Men yet but I would watch along with the reactions. It always comes up in the discussion of the all time greats. PS: it sounds like they've been watching some Korean dramas. I really enjoyed Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Marcus Cato

It sounds like they study Computer Science. They should know what they might be getting into! 😂

Marcus Cato

I've read that they do that to screw everybody out of money that they would be entitled to if 6b were officially called Season 7. Real greaseball shit.

Marcus Cato

If you want to go quickly through a show and also cry your eyes out. Station Eleven!!! But I have to agree with all the Mad Men votes

Mitchell

I know you don't really watch comedies on this channel but Silicon Valley is great HBO show that's hilarious, if you haven't watched it yet you should probably consider it. It could be a good change of pace from all these drama shows.

BND

Would love Barry then Mad Men tbh. Barry is very bingeable and would be similar length to Cowboy Bebop then we can get in the weeds again with Mad Men (which I haven’t seen but would love to go through slowly but surely).

Chris Dodson

Adding to the chorus: Mad Men is absolutely in the same tier of all-time greats as The Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad. (And created by a Sopranos alum, to boot.)

Mike

Looks like I'm gonna end up being the only person to recommend The Pitt. Well, I still recommend it to everyone in the comments. 13 out of 15 episodes have aired in the first season. I normally don't like medical dramas, but this show has been great and really gripping. Its on Max.

James Long

I already cast my vote for Mad Men but if you're gonna do a shorter show first... The White Lotus is great! 21 episodes total

Taya

People only remember Michael C Hall for Dexter and that bums me out

Isaac

Mad Men. It's toasted.

Taya

yeah, you've gotta be patient for Adolescence, Lola. It'll come highly recommended once it circulates more

Isaac

I want Fargo, just not before Mad Men :)

Isaac

30:04 It looks weird, but that's how the Mafia was ran, it was basically a pyramid scheme in which the Boss was theoretically entitled to a piece of literally ANY money or asset anyone under him made, regardless of it's origin. "Shit runs downhill, money goes up". Now, was that rule always followed to the extreme? Of course not. But the more money you kick up, the more you gain the Boss's favor.

Gaboxxy

That should really be done for every episode; Sopranos has by far the best soundtrack of any tv I’ve seen, especially the choices that end episodes

Octavio

Haha this is amazing!

Taya

Adolescence would be a great reaction after Sopranos in-between long show slots. I think it would be an interesting discussion for the subject matter but it also has some interesting camera work and pacing.

JClark

Medium Show: Twin Peaks. It's a classic that I've seen a lot of love in the comments for. It was a groundbreaking show when it first aired.

Michael M

https://youtu.be/TMkPu-NTkJI It's gotta be Mad Men!

Isaac

Short Show: The Penguin. It's a special show that stands completely on its own without having to lean on the Batman IP. No Batman knowledge required.

Michael M

Liking all the comments saying Mad Men. It's incredible

Nazım Metin

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend Six Feet Under. From the early 2000s. Set at a family-owned funeral home. Great mix of drama and comedy. Well regarded at the time, but for some strange reason the show hasn't endured in popularity like Sopranos or The Wire. Amazing show, I think you'd love it.

Martin S

Six Feet Under or Mad Men would be a great follow up!

Josip

Carmela's father shaved his beard that's why he looks different. Also, Vito is the guy Finn caught giving another man a blowjob and also the guy that shot Jackie Jr.

bondbond53

Mad Men. I would be so delighted by your analysis and reaction to the mores, attitudes, interpersonal and family dynamics of that time. Plus the high quality of the writing, filmmaking, performances, themes : it deserves its regard in the pantheon of prestige TV. The characters will live with you during the watch and for years after. Characters rising to the level of archetypes. Mad Men. For intelligence, wit, and catharsis.

Chris Oxner

Weird request, I know, but for the next episode I'd recommend for you to let the ending credits roll for at least a minute. The music choice for it and it's lyrics are very significant in the context of the narrative, just let them sink in a bit. As to what show to watch next, go with your gut and just watch Mad Men. Amazingly written, well acted and it's a breath of fresh air from the type of shows you usually react to, while still having the same quality.

Gaboxxy

Same!

Eric Viola

No they said that because he had shaved. They're right he doesn't look the same.

Eric Viola

Yessss

Eric Viola

Please react to Mad Men! It’s an amazing character driven story with emotional depth in the writing just like the sopranos without all the violence. Yall would love it!

Omar

Would love for them to watch season 3 lol. They may hate it

Kranky

Agreed. The best way I can describe the dialogue in Deadwood is lowlife Shakespeare…😂

JG

Lola have you seen Reply 1988???? That's my favourite K-Drama and I would faint if you react to it!!!

bondbond53

When you said her grandfather didn’t look the same…there was a big time gap in between these seasons (5&6) when they were filmed. At the time, it was a big deal for the fans who waited and got impatient

Daniel_

My picks would be Twin Peaks for a long show or Andor for a shorter one! Hyped for the final season

Joel

Really hoping they watch Mad Men

JojoPotato

Would LOVE an adolescence reaction!

Virgil Hawkins

I also recommend Deadwood. They have to complete the Holy Trinity of GOAT anti-hero characters... Walter White - Breaking Bad Tony Soprano - The Sopranos Al Swearengen - Deadwood Controversial take: If HBO didn't prematurely cancel Deadwood after 3 seasons due to budgetary reasons, it would be neck and neck with The Sopranos as the best HBO series of all time. What Deadwood accomplished in 3 seasons is incredibly hard to top.

JG

All are great options.

Daniel_

100% agree.

Eric Viola

I think it's gotta be Mad Men.

Eric Viola

Agree. Gotta be Mad Men.

Eric Viola

It's so great. Really hope they do!

Eric Viola

I think Barry on HBO would be good. 4 seasons 30 minutes a episode. Plus an old man that you will eventually call baby boy. I think it’s a good in between show. Very funny but also serious.

Michael Blake

Deadwood. I would give anything. The dialogue is the best English you can hear.

Derek Suboticki

Junior was such a proud man I think he'd rather have died from that cancer had he known how he would be affected by dementia.

Damien Fenton

Deadwood would be awesome; it’s another golden age HBO show. Also it’s just 3 seasons In fact, it aired in 2004 at same time or near same time of Sopranos season 5 and The Wire season 3

Octavio

MAD MEN is the very natural successor to The Sopranos!!!

bondbond53

Mad men I think most consider to be a classic. Here are some long show rec: 1) Mad Men 2) Boardwalk Empire 3) Halt and Catch Fire 4) Person of Interest 5) Justified

Quasirng

PLEASE react to Mad Men!! I'm praying & manifesting!!

Taya

Mad Men is 92 eps. Barry is 32 eps. Fargo and True Detective are both anthologies and individual seasons can be watched.

Brandonsuplex

Barry would great, Gomorrah as well — Station Eleven, Devs (1 Season)

Steven Jeanrolus

For the next live action TV drama, I highly recommend The Pitt. It is a new medical drama on Max. It is only the first season and only 15 episodes.

James Long

Nah.. we are already here? Nah nah I’m still mentally in season 4.. why are we in the last season already? Time can’t be going this fast.

Jack SV

Mad Men is a classic. I cannot argue against that but I'm still going to recommend For All Mankind on AppleTV. Four seasons so far. I know the girls will love it and a lot of its characters.

Damien Fenton

Please do Andor next.

Farbod

Please check out Barry on Max. It’s a dark comedy. 30 minute episodes that ran for 4 seasons. Very good show!

Daniel_

Idk if anyone has mentioned this, but season 6 was originally aired as 6a and 6b. Season 6a was episodes 1-12 and 6b was 13-21. On streaming services now, it is shown as just season 6.

LegacyFilms

As far as a next TV Drama you guys have to start Mad Men next. It is phenomenal.

Eric Viola

LOVE this premiere Tony and Junior's relationship is one of my favourites in the show

bondbond53

Let's goooo... Can't wait to see your reactions for the final season.

Eric Viola
