They've definitely had more golden ages imo. Attack on Titan, BCS, The Bear. Lots of incredible shows.

Helena despises innies and doesn't think they're people. That moment could easily be the mask slipping when innie Mark - who she thinks is a child, subhuman who should be happy to do Kier's 'great work' - says she's the same as the innie who literally tried to kill them both.

Helena also doesn't give a shit about Helly though, and I could see her saying that. Helly tried to get out multiple times, was denied, then tried to strangle herself/Helena in s1. Helena doesn't think innies are real people.

I think it's Helena.. However, the only thing that's massively in favour of it being Helly is her comment about how the innies and outies are different from one another. I understand Helly's motivation for that kind of comment, but not Helena's.. Unless Helena simply learned Helly's character incredibly well and can also act really well

Powerful scene between Dylan and Irv. This episode really does well at reminding us of the life / death nature of being severed. When you no longer work at the company, you no longer eperience life anymore. Milchick is absolutely threatening them when he says it's their choice if they don't want to come back. Dylan is essentially talking Irv down from committing suicide, even to the point of grabbing him before he "jumps". The whole life / death theme is going to play a fairly major role in this series I think..

Her being Helly on the outside absolutely helps them. At least theoretically to their innie selves. That’s an inside man of some kind or at the very least they would know she is in some way a mole being out in there for some publicity reasons. And there isn’t a single moment in season one that says Helly wouldn’t to exploit or hurt her outie even more now that she knows who she is. Now all this being said I’m not 100% in that it’s Helly just for the reason it seems so obvious. And they just point the viewer in that direction so clearly. Either way, whatever is happening. It’s a frickin great and I’m so glad this show is back.

writers did a good job of making helly/helena ambiguous but the smoking gun is that close up scene of her struggling to find her pc’s switch. also irving is clearly suspicious of her after the “night gardener” comment given he only told dylan about his outie’s paintings of the testing floor

@isaac right, but Lumen could have gotten their child earlier in their life, before Gemma’s death.

2025-01-21 07:54:48 +0000 UTC
My theories:
1. Helly is her outie and is assigned to find out what Mark, Dylan and Irving know.
2. Lumen reforms and public celebrity are lies, orchestrated to let our main characters feel safe and talk openly about their experiences and knowledge.
3. Helena turned her speech from the Innie by portraying work as imprisonment from which her Innie freed her, thus there was no public scandal.
4. The work at Lumen is a large experiment to investigate the consequences of Severance, thus the low safety regulations.
5. Gemma / Ms. Casey was unhappy in the marriage. Now two scenarios: She was infatuated with the Severance procedure and staged a car crash with Lumen to ultimately escape the marriage. Other idea: Gemma got into a car accident, resulting in damage to her brain, and Lumen took the opportunity to use her as a test subject.

Totally agree. It’s gonna have something to do with his incredible grief for Gemma and the file he refined which I can’t remember the name of was probably connected to saving some form of her life. I don’t know. That’s all just crazy talk but it feels right to me.

I think the question is do you think Helena would want Helly reawakened? Why? I think it's certainly possible that there's a reason (I mean we know so little about Helena and her motives), but the impression she's given thus far is that she's fully with the Lumon program and has no sympathy/respect for innies. I just think the benefits of Helena going in as a spy seem so much greater than awakening Helly. If their goal is to regain control over the innies, why reinsert the most chaotic, rebellious one into the situation? Especially now that she knows how valuable she personally is to Lumon. Just seems incredibly risky with no reward for Lumon/Helena.

The creators went to great effort to hide the dialogue when Dylan explains how he got it to Helly, so maybe there's more to it. I could see us maybe getting a flashback at a certain point where we see how and why Mark was able to refine the file so fast.

Why wouldn’t they send Helly back? Even if she told them what she saw that doesn’t help them or do anything for them. I think they would need a reason not to vs a reason to.

2025-01-21 03:23:13 +0000 UTC
I haven’t seen anyone say it. But Lola. He got that statue thing from a project before Helly and everything. It was when he first joined the severance floor, he refined a file super fast and well and became kind of the golden child of the team and he got that cube thing. Hopefully that helps. It’s not anything more sinister. Coupdnt believe your still worried about that. Haha. Love the reaction.

Her entire world was completely turned upside down and she would’ve had a huge amount of adrenaline after what she did. It would’ve made more sense for Helena do immediately hug mark back cuz she knew they had a thing cuz it was all recorded. And with her telling them I guess it’s whatever you think, but I really don’t think she would have the confidence or want to tell them that at least so soon. I also think it makes more sense for her to be running after being tackled than from after talking to a night gardener which is what her story was. Night gardener also sounds so much like an innie thing to say. There’s no way Helena or lemon wouldn’t have thought of a better thing that actually makes sense. That sounded very on the spot.

I’d like to hear a strong argument for it being Helly. Cause I think it’s weak at best. And the only real thing I think is they are trying to trick us so it might be Helly but in “administrative” mode or something. But other than that I don’t see Helly in this character at all. Even tells mark he isn’t married to Gemma it’s his outie.
alex otis
2025-01-21 03:06:06 +0000 UTC
Why would helly run out of the elevator. She got tackled by Natalie as she switched. The only thing that makes me think it’s helly is she sort of shows some caring for mark finding Gemma. Everything else she does says it’s Helena. Helly wouldn’t in a million years be embarrassed by her outie. She would immediately try and find a way to exploit this. She literally hung herself to both leave the office but more importantly hurt Helena. There isn’t an ounce of first season Helly that wouldn’t tell the truth. Also she didn’t hug mark immediatley out of the elevator. Kind of held back. And she is the one pointing out to every one there are no cameras. Cause she is the camera.
alex otis
2025-01-21 03:03:28 +0000 UTC
I thought it was helly mainly because of her piss-poor explanation that I figured lumon would absolutely nail down a proper explanation given how they run other aspects of their company as well as the fact that her weird behavior can be explained by shock and disorientation (she was literally tackled right?)
But then I also think if they or at least helena, happens to view innies as sub-human she might just underestimate them and the apartment comment was weird enough that I think it could be helena. I think for people who have been in an office their entire existence, even drab apartments wouldn't really be boring and would have some novelty.

2025-01-21 02:26:39 +0000 UTC
My biggest reason I think it’s Helly is because she ran out of the elevator. If it was Helena she would’ve had the night gardener story in mind and not have of ran out because it didn’t match her story. It only makes sense to me if helly ran out cuz the last thing she remembers was getting ran at and tackled and then made up the night gardener story on the spot when asked what she did.
Also night gardener sounds like a complete inny thing to say. And it seemed she was nervous when Irving asked if there was night gardeners which would be weird for Helena cuz she knows night gardeners do exists so wouldn’t be worried about that defence. But for Helly she doesn’t know they exist so could think she just got busted if they don’t.
And if it was Helana why wouldn’t she tell them what Helly actually saw? It wouldn’t help them in any way and if anything would help them believe they are hero’s on the outside. I think only Helly would have lied because she doesn’t want them to view her as a slave owner basically.

I think the miss Casey scene was showing they in fact are working on perfect workers or or different types of people. Which was one of the most popular theories that they were refining chips for pure severance workers.
I’m also confident everything milkshake said was a lie. The photo is Dwight D . Eisenhower’s parade through Brazil with them edited in, and there’s no way he waited 5 months before getting cobel’s name changed from the computer with how much it clearly irritates him.

I'm just gonna throw this out there but what if miss Huang is mark and Casey's daughter? The same medical professionals who pronounced ms Casey dead could pronounce a baby stillborn. And there seemed to be something intentional about the way mark and miss Huang look at each other.

And "ITNO. 25.00 (BUILD)" so this might be 25th iteration of clone(?) Ms. Casey? The screen also shows a bunch of vitals (heart rate, body temperature, etc.) which tracks with her being "powered down" or in a stasis/coma or something.
I think they walked a pretty beautiful tightrope between Helly/Helena this episode. Wonder how long they'll keep that mystery going? Seems like they'll have to reveal their hand pretty quickly if they show what happened with the Outies.
I trust the show to make the right choice for the story, but personally, I hope it's Helly (even if I don't understand why they'd ever send he back down there). The character in conflict with the truth of her existence imo is more interesting than the subterfuge.

Props to the writers. I'm 50/50 on whether Helly is a mole or she's embarrased to be an Eagan around her innie friends. It could go either way. Edit: Upon further review, it looked like she fumbled around trying to find her computer's power button. I'm on Team She's-Helena now.

Looking forward to another civil war here about whether it's Helena or Helly. I'll just say I have zero doubt in my mind that it's Helena, there's too many clues sprinkled in, this is not our rebellious queen.
And yeah, I think a lot of people forgot that the only source we have of it being 5 months was Milchick saying so, which can not be trusted. He would not give them that information unless he wanted them to believe it.
Anyway I love that we're back and heavily speculating about what is going on, hopefully we got to see the outside world next episode.

They showed the five numbers bins in season 1 as well. Idk why it's five, but under each one there are four stats called WO, FC, DR, and MA, which are definitely the four tempers (Woe, Frolic, Dread, and Malice). So it seems that the numbers elicit these different emotions, and they have to group the numbers so that each bin has the correct balance of each temper. So my first thought with the end of the episode is that he's unknowingly fine-tuning her traits on the testing floor or something, idk.
